Divertitevi. [...]
Last year (and the year before) I got way too busy with this thing called life and missed out on a lot of quality music. I am here to rectify the error of my ways, month by month. Here are the July 2011 releases that got under my skin, burrowed their way into my brain, made [...]
MS staffers have lives too, and as such we can't always get to the record store the very day new releases come out. We're guessing it's the same for you guys, too, but that doesn't mean you're not interested in the week's new releases, right? With that in mind, here's Vic Vaughn on all the [...]
The terrain of post-rock is a tough place for a band to put themselves, especially with current standouts Explosions in the Sky and veterans Godspeed You! Black Emperor leading the safari. You have to find the right combination of dynamics, theatricality, and technical skill to stand out in the wash of reverb. Los Angeles-based Beware of Safety are able to find that proper concoction and add something their aforementioned peers tend to lack: raw rock power. On their second, and latest, album, Leaves/Scars , BoS sound more like a prog-metal [...]

Yes, it's true, they're at it again. Dogs was a near masterpiece, then they released a one-song split with Giants, and now 2011 will get rocked once more by Beware of Safety, one of The Mylene Sheath's golden bands. Entitled Leaves/Scars it will be released July 12th, but pre-orders will be on sale June 17th. Be sure to pick this one up, because it's probably going to be another fantastic album, and look here in the near future for a review after it's released. Tracklisting: 1) Meridian - 6:26 2) Kevin Spacey [...]

Howdy, folks. Coming into the new year, we've pretty much revamped ourselves. We have a domain name now (so we don't look like those other lame blogs), more regular posts and what appears to be a fan-base (maybe). Ricky's doing this entirely different, so I thought I might as well just go about this my own way and give you my best of 2010. 1. Album of the Year Cicada- Over the [...]
Last night's screening of The Room was pretty ridiculous. Crazy kids with handles of hard liquor, weed, and Costco-size boxes of spoons to be hurled back and forth for the duration of the film. It was about as good an experience as I could have hoped for newbies Tom, Nicci and Troy. You can't live in Los Angeles and ignore this shit. It's pretty much the most amazing moviegoing experience that has ever existed. Even if, at 27, you feel like the oldest person in attendance. I updated the official Swan Fungus concert calendar…so, there's that. [...]

Always late to write about the stuff that's snowballing in our mailbox. Not much to write home about but managed to find some that's worth your attention hopefully. + Forgot to write about the new UK supergroup Stonephace 's album on Tru Thoughts . Fronted by Portishead guitarist Adrian Utley veteran jazz saxophonist Larry Stabbins, Stonephace creates a modern day fusion of afrobeat meets psychedelic soul and cosmic jazz. + L.A. based instrumental rock quintet Beware of Safety 's release their epic post-rock album Dogs. I am not to keen [...]
February may be the shortest of the year, but by no means is it the slowest when it comes to news. Between festival lineups and reunion news, showcase announcements and new albums, the last 27 days certainly brought many sleepless nights and vivid memories. So what better way to cap off the month then by offering another edition of our Friday Mixtape. As always, below you'll find a mix of the week's best new singles, remixes, and covers, along with mp3s from a few up-and-comers you may just want to check out. NEW Singles: [...]
Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: Well, what's to be thought of Tinted Windows? Yesterday the band (or act?), which features faces from Hanson, Fountains Of Wayne, Smashing Pumpkins and Cheap Trick, debuted a video packed with snippets of sugary sweet pop tunes. Personally, I think I'm still on the only-curious side of things. Here's an EP. Enjoy. : Black Joe Lewis And The Honeybears - Bitch, I Love You : I'd expect those of that are local to be [...]
Post-Rock is Cold Dead Genre? (2004-???) Albums like F#A#(infinity) in 1998 by GY!BE, Young Team in 1997 by Mogwai, and The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place in 2003 by Explosions in the Sky have become the blueprints that many fledgling bands have used to sculpt their own sound. The fact that modern post-rock bands [...]
