Bicycle Thieves (aka The Bicycle Thief) When looking back on the summer of 2011, I am fairly certain that the film I saw which stood out the most will not involve people with extraordinary powers. Nor will it feature wild bridesmaids or groomsmen nursing hangovers. Instead the film that I will fondly reflect on will be a simple little film about a man looking for his bicycle. Set in post-World War II Rome, director Vittorio De Sica's film Bicycle Thieves [...]

Not long after my recent post on the rise of the Liverpool music scene from the Doledrums it was announced that the legendary music venue Erics is to re-open its doors 31 years after they closed for what was thought to be the last time. Further evidence that the musical good times are back. To celebrate this momentous news here are some more bands bringing the feel good factor back to the land of the Liver Birds. The new Glasvegas is giving me goosebumps (or goosepimples?)... anyway, I see that the best in Scottish music-uploaders has posted a new song on YouTube: guyfromnewcastle covers that scene better than anyone and I am indebted. Even NME is linking to his upload. Nice. He's also got this wonderfully dark B-Side from Bicycle Thieves:

Eine weitere Band aus St. Petersburg schickt sich an, bei Shoegaze- und 4AD-Freunden für Entzückung zu sorgen: Bicycle Thieves heißt die Band, über die man auf ihrer Mysypace-Seite leider nicht viel mehr erfährt. Außer, dass ihre 2-Track-EP «Glimmer of hope» als kostenloser Download angeboten wird, wofür ich dann mal ein herzliches „spasiba" [...]

Bicycle Thieves Genre: Indie / Glum Rock From: Liverpool, United Kingdom A word of advice from the Devil. If you're from Liverpool and you don't want to perpetuate the myth (and it is a myth no matter what the scouse hating media say) that all scousers are robbers then don't call your band Bicycle Thieves! That aside it's a great name, a name which they could have adopted from the Pale Fountains [...]

The Accidental - Knock Knock The Accidental - Wolves I first heard The Accidental in February, when Nothing But Green Lights featured the beautiful ' Illuminated Red '. I fell in love with the song, but (having downloaded it without taking the time to read the article) the band was a total mystery to me. They were suddenly there and I had never heard anything about them. I had no idea who they were or why [...]
