Well, I know these have been posted before, but I figure that you might like to hear these if you haven't before... First up, my support of Lightspeed Champion this year annoyed a few folks, but I stand by it, especially when he does covers as good as these... Lightspeed Champion -Back To Black (Amy Winehouse cover).' mp3 Lightspeed Champion -'Xanadu (Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra cover).' mp3 Endearingly shambolic, and a wonderful version: Raincoats -'Lola (The Kinks cover).' If you're going to T in the Park it's understandable you might be a little miffed you won't know what time the bands you've paid £170 of your hard-earned cash to see are actually on stage at. Of course, you could just find out when you get there by forking out another £8 for the privilege of wearing the running order around your neck. Or you could print off the timetable for the Main Stage, Radio 1 NME Stage and King Tut's Tent here. Tough call. [...]

What do Belle & Sebastian , Snow Patrol and Biffy Clyro all have in common (apart from being three of the most popular bands to come out of Scotland's music scene in the past decade)? The answer is that before virtually anyone had even heard of them, they all brought out one-off releases on Electric Honey , the record label run by music industry management students at Glasgow's Stow College. Each year the students sift through dozens of [...]

Put on your scarves and Buddy Holly glasses, cause today we're bringing you the band that was emo before the term existed, and once the term did exist, still kicked ass. For everyone who grew up on the first of their three self-titled albums, and Pinkerton , here are a few new ways to think about your favorite songs. Oh, and did I mention their new one comes out tomorrow? =w= Asher - My Name Is Jonas One of the better-known songs on the album, I [...]

Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down… Spring has finally sprung this week in New England and in a twist of fate it's pouring outside (it's been beautiful all week). I guess Meatloaf was right when he sang "two out of three ain't bad" because it's Friday and I've got The Five to keep me company while waiting out the rain. Last week's Five was positively on fire! The familiar Fivers Club all showed up en masse and we had quite a few new and welcome additions to the group. For [...]

As cover versions go, this has to be one of my favourites. True, the chances of me not liking it are pretty slim. After all, it's a band I like , doing a song I like, by another band I like . But the thing that raises it above the usual cover version, is it's complete disregard for the original. Now, I'm not saying that it doesn't respect the original. Just that it refuses to stand in it's shadow. In fact, it's barely recognisable as the same song. If at all. It dares to [...]

If you're old enough to be affected by all this doom and gloom talk of unsustainable debt, a volatile housing market, tumbling share prices, non-existent pensions, bank lending panic and a worsening exchange rate then you're probably thinking you've got no chance of ever celebrating Christmas again. So you have two choices. You can either flog your golddust tickets for the most in-demand festival in Scotland for three times their face value, or say 'Fuck it - I'm going to nod my head frantically to British Sea Power while caked in knee-deep mud'. That's the spirit! [...]

Insomma, ecco [...]

Biffy Clyro came to town... a really long time ago - in September. I saw them. When I worked at Blueridge off Byers Road in Glasgow at the end of 2004, we used to listen to them on repeat - only breaking for fellow new (or is that "nu"?) metal-ers YOURCODENAMEIS:MILO and My Chemical Romance. So it was mucho funny that there were some Glaswegians in the audience when they rolled through PDX supporting Editors. Talk about an odd match up. [...]

Terius Nash aka " The-Dream " and Tricky Stewart co-wrote Umbrella and supposedly put it on hold for Britney Spears. Spears passed on the song, instead opting for Me Against The Music , and during a session with Rihanna , the Bahama Mama snatched it up and made it the mega-hit of the Summer. According to The-Dream, Umbrella was written in just twelve minutes. [...]
Here we are again with a new week and another avalanche of new album releases. Starting off with some notable solo efforts with Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth , Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene , and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam all releasing albums this week. Other highlights this week include albums from Rogue Wave , Les Savy Fav , Akron/Family , and Ben Lee . Most of which you can samples for below. What else is out this week that I may [...]

One of the best things about the recent In The City Of New York conference was the Enter Shikari/ Biffy Clyro /Blood Red Shoes showcase at Highline Ballroom. Friends who were out on the Warped Tour this Summer tell me Biffy Clyro blew a great portion of the rest of that festival's bill clear off the stage(s), so it's good news that the band's Puzzle finally gets a proper release here in the States today. It also gives us good reason to post their recent cover of Rhianna's "Umbrella" from BBC [...]
This week is another bank account drainer, as fall now seems to be in full swing, with a huge list of new releases compiled the unfailing Largehearted Boy . Several reissues (For Against, Immaculate Machines, Iggy Pop and box sets (Emmylou Harris, John Coltrane) complement this collection of independent and mainstream releases. A few highlights this week of albums from bands you typically hear on KEXP (or will soon) include Akron/Family, Carolyn Mark, The Donnas, Magnet, Rogue Wave, Hard-Fi, The Fall, Gravenhurst, Mary Gauthier, Ben Lee, and Les Savy Fav. Local bands Green Pajamas, Schoolyard Heroes, and [...]
Campaign Diary by Peter Asen June 2nd is the best possible day of the year to move back to Maine after seven years away - it is just that point when it stops being cold (there is no spring in Maine, only mud season) and when moods and outfits brighten for a period that is only now beginning to wind down. June 2nd is exactly when I moved to Maine. I had left my stable job with some prospects in Rhode Island [...]

Biffy Clyro has always been notorious for their energetic and raw videos, like Semi-mental or Saturday Superhouse , but this time its a bit different. Their latest video " Machines ", the fifth single of Puzzle , is a lot slower then Biffy has accustomed us to, very static and emotional, packed with Simon Neil's shivering and beautiful voice and acoustics. The powerful lyrics ( i would dig a thousand holes, to lay next to you) are meant to express Simon's deep pain as a result [...]

There is a big show at 9:30 Club tonight. Editors are in town and they are joined by Ra Ra Riot and Biffy Clyro . Editors - An End Has A Start Ra Ra Riot - Can You Tell Biffy Clyro - Folding Stars
