My photos from Outside Lands 2011 are up on Flickr ! Enjoy! Next post I'll share my thoughts on the festival itself, but I'm still in pain from something stupid I did at the concert, so I don't feel like sitting in front a computer any more than I have to. Instead, have a metric buttload of BAD II/Big Audio. Big Audio Dynamite II/Big Audio The Globe (Single Edit) The Globe (Single Remix Edit) [...]
Meh! Meh I say! Dead Or Alive You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) (Extended Mix) Brand New Lover (Bubble Mix) Did you know Jessica Simpson tried to cover You Spin Me Round? She failed because she's a no-talent piece of trash who should fall off the face of the Earth. Seriously. How many great songs does that vapid talentless nimrod need to butcher? She fucked up that song, Robbie Williams epic power ballad "Angels," "Take My Breath Away" and "These Boots Are Made For Walking." [...]
If you still haven't listened to last week's '90s show yet - you have until tonight to check out the archive. Go ahead: Stream the July 27 edition of Out the Other And here's the playlist, complete with bonus mp3s (cause these songs are too good to listen to only once): 1. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit ( Nevermind ) 2. Silverchair - Tomorrow ( Frogstomp ) 3. Luscious Jackson - Naked Eye ( Fever In Fever Out ) ( mp3 ) 4. They Might [...]
Anyone else noticed the similarity between Metric's "Help I'm Alive" and Big Audio Dynamite II's "Rush?" No? Just me? Every time I hear that Metric song I can't help but start singing "Rush"- a song I've always found beyond annoying, which, needless to say, precludes any ability for me to appreciate "Help I'm Alive." BAD has not only retroactively tarnished Mick Jones' contributions to The Clash but now it's ruining modern indie rock, too... For the melodic similarity check about 1:40 into the Metric song versus the moment the BAD II video starts. The sound quality [...]
Sorry for the unannounced week off. Shit happens. On an entirely unrelated note, I saw Star Trek last week and must say that IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE. Totally. Like, it's total fucking godhead good. It's mind-blowing, pants-creaming extraordinary awesomeness that will make you forget about the war, the shitty economy, The Black-Eyed Peas and everything else that's wrong with our world today. I'm planning at least two more trips to the theater to see it, and if you haven't seen it yet then you're fucking up. It's awesome. Go [...]

For most of the past week, I could hear a nagging little voice in the back of my head. It told me that I really ought to check in with the office, so as not to be buried under an avalanche of work upon my return from vacation. Unfortunately, that little voice was easily drowned out by the calamitous licensed din that is the Knights of the Old Republic games. As a result of my placing a higher priority on foiling the machinations of virtual Sith Lords than on occupational responsibilities, I've spent the last few [...]

What kind of a band has a sequel? B.A.D. that's who. Before I ever knew of the Clash, I was a BAD II fan. My brother got me The Globe (1991) one Christmas and for a ten year old kid with no music sense, it was a revelation. I suddenly held the belief that if I listened to good music, girls would be irrepressibly attracted to me. The Cars. Billy Joel. Never really worked out that way. Well, I mean, now it does. But back then it was [...]
Sorry Folks, I got a post lined up but I'll never finish writing it today, so I'm going to throw up a couple of quickie tunes here for today so y'all don't think I've abandoned ship. Then I'll get the longer one up tomorrow. So I'm going to up 3 or 4 favorites that you might not see too often. Black Blade by Blue Oyster Cult (my all time favorite Cult song) The Globe by Big Audio Dynamite II [...]
