Vibe 's March/April issue includes an interview with Big Boi that speaks once again on the recurring rumors surrounding him and his former Outkast member Andre 3000 . Despite the duo's adamant claims that they won't make music together anytime soon and things are fine between them on a personal level, it seems like people just can't drop the idea. His last statement on the subject feels pretty definitive though. "Until y'all see us sitting together, don't ask me about no Outkast," Daddy Fat Saxxx told Vibe . " My kids stay [...]

as i scroll through the centerfolds, wishing that the screen was three-dimensional, i know it doesn't seem too conventional, but it'll do until i get you in the physical If you are one of the many who pretty much ignored Big Boi's latest album then I've gotta draw your attention to these two tracks. Most of the rest is just a depressing reminder that Vicious Lies is definitely not Sir Lucious Leftfoot 2 . Who ever knows why these follow ups often fall off so hard. I do know that [...]

My Bloody Valentine m b v Pickpocket 4.5 out of 5 Kevin Shields spent 22 years painting himself into a corner, and just jumped out of it in the best possible way. There were so many questions and expectations about whatever record would follow the holiest of holies, the classic Loveless, that it amazing how many right moves he made. The first right move was releasing it suddenly online; so [...]

Woody delivers us this new remix of Outkast ’s Skew it on the Bar-B feat Chef Rae. As always, a banging remix. I’ll double down on Woody’s sentiment that Outkast is the best hip hop duo. Boom there it is. Skew it on the Bar-B feat Raekwon - Outkast (Woody’s Remix)

After taking a crack at the Notorious B.I.G. last year, young producer Woody has shifted his sights onto some different elder statesmen of the hip hop world for 2013. It's Outkast's turn to receive the remix treatment now, and with Woody applying the finishing touches to this long-promised project, the leaks are beginning to flow. 'B.O.B.' is the latest cut to surface from Woody, and it's a goodie; the out-and-out sprint of the original has been replaced by a slower, scatty shuffle, with frenetic percussion keeping the energy high. Woody's Outkast [...]
Did You Hear? :: It looks like One Direction 's Zayn Malik injured himself somehow. The Selena Gomez kiss crush was spotted with bandages on his right hand, Chris Brown -style. That's the prettiest mangled hand we've ever seen. [ E! ] :: By now, we all know about Rick Ross 's narrow escape from serious injury and/or death via a drive-by shooting (on his birthday, no less). Big Boi - Pink Matter Remix

In roughly the early 1900s, painting dissolved into abstraction and appropriation, and artists working since then have veered away from realism. As modern life splintered and proliferated, popular music rushed to catch up to the visual arts, first with the advances of jazz and then with those of its contemporary offspring, hip hop. While a stickler might argue that sampling, improvising, and making mixtapes (as opposed to more formal LPs) is more in the rhythm of modern life, OutKast doesn't buy that. Read More...

We have slowly become more and more impatient with Jai Paul and his frequency of musical output or lack there of. To date, he only has two incredible songs to his name, "BTSTU" and this past year's "Jasmine" . We are hoping this year is the year that we get a proper album from the artist, however, in the meantime, we are going to have to be satisfied with his contribution to Big Boi's latest LP, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumours , titled "High Res". The track, also featuring [...]
"Higher Res" only came with the Deluxe version Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors , so it perhaps escaped notice even more so than the rest of the album––which itself probably suffered from its year-end release date. Among the year-end noise was more than a little praise for Jai Paul's second song ever, "Jasmine" (show me a best songs of 2012 list that didn't include it), and so its somewhat remarkable that more hasn't been made of his appearance on Big Boi's album. He gets sole producer credit and features much more prominently on the track [...]

10. Kurt Vile feat. Bradford Cox – “Freak Train” Atlanta, 2011: Kurt Vile takes the stage for the last time with the original lineup of his backing band, the Violators. Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox is in attendance. Vile brings him on stage and launches into “Freak Train”, resulting in a nine minute freak out of squealing guitars and unforgiving feedback. Vile, usually soft in his delivery, shouts the lyrics into the microphone: “Ride on a freak traaaiiin!” Fortunately, this song and five others from the set were preserved, and [...]

Antwan Patton - best known as Big Boi - has always seemed at odds with his own weirdness. In fact there are few hip hop artists who straddle the line between deviant artist and radio rapper so convincingly as Mr. Patton; as a member of Outkast he always seemed to play straight man to Andre 3000’s more radical persona, but Big Boi was nonetheless essential to the overwhelming oddness one of the most mystifying hip hop acts the south has ever produced. On Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, Big Boi tries to prove that he’s as [...]
