I'm not afraid of death. It's the stake one puts up in order to play the game of life. ~ Jean Giraudoux, Amphitryon, 1929 Tears Dry Their Own - Amy Winehouse - Organized Noize Dungeon Family Remix - Big Boi released this yesterday on his soundcloud. Very great remix. Sorrowful/hopeful piano creeps in on this bouncy beat. Jammer. RIP The Cave - Alex Winston - Mumford & Son's cover - The Mayor's got mad love for Motown's Alex Winston. This [...]

Rolling Stone presents a live stream of Big Boi's Washington D.C. concert tonight, which you can kindly watch below. But, this might not be the biggest Big Boi news of the day. According to the magazine, a collaboration between Big Boi and his Outkast partner Andre 3000 is very much a possibility on the next Big Boi record, now that many of the label difficulties have been lifted that prevented the two from realeasing collaborative work in the past. Exciting stuff! The Big Boi live stream begins at 6:30 PM PST. Enjoy.

Photo by Max Blau Perhaps when Big Boi let the folks at Crown Royal follow him around and document his hectic life as a mogul/MC , the whole thing smacked ever so slightly of being simply more product placement. But with the second phase of that relationship leading to a live webcast by Sir Lucious Left Foot from Washington, DC, we're more than happy to forget all that hullabaloo. Head to RollingStone.com at 9:30 p.m. EST to see a one-hour Big Boi show from our nation's capital; perhaps everyone can sit [...]
As we reported last week, Big Boi is live streaming his gig tonight in Washington, D.C. so that all of us non-D.C.'ers can check it out and, maybe, get over our case of the Mondays. The show is a celebration of the collaboration between Big Boi and Crown Royal, which we previously heard about through The Crown Life online mini-documentary. Hopefully this will be a chance for Big Boi to preview some of that new material he's been talking about lately. Or, even better, maybe Andre 3000 will join him for a [...]

Though Amy Winehouse released just two albums, the soulful singer left an indelible mark on pop music that impacts artists large and small. Now, in the wake of her death , two of those artists, M.I.A. and Big Boi, have released tributes to the "Rehab" singer. M.I.A.'s ode, "273, was recorded back in December as a more general meditation on the self-destructive tendencies of rock stars and, given its proximity to Winehouse's passing, a final, haunting goodbye from one friend to another. Big Boi's offering is a remix of "Tears Dry On Their [...]

Another ode to the late great Amy Winehouse today. Yesterday early on we got an unreleased demo from M.I.A. titled "27" and then in the late hours yesterday Big Boi , Organized Noize and the rest of the Dungeon Family uploaded a remix of Amy's track "Tears Dry On Their Own" which featured on Amy's album Back To Black. Amy Winehouse - "Tears Dry on their Own" (Organized Noize Dungeon Family Remix) by Big Boi
To commemorate the passing of Amy Winehouse, Big Boi has delivered this previously unreleased remix of one of her bigger singles, "Tears Dry On Their Own". The original appeared on her absolutely huge, Grammy-winning sophomore record, Back To Black . It was a relatively upbeat, brassy affair that has now become a somewhat darker joint in the hands of Organized Noize and the Dungeon Family. I know, Organized Noize is actually part of the Dungeon Family, so it's not too clear exactly who was involved. But that aside, this is a great lil' gem from [...]

Wale has been making lots of new music in the past couple months. Love how most of Wale's latest songs have been upbeat and/or the rapping is off the hook! Even though Wale is working under my least favorite rapper in Rick Ross, I still think Wale can still have that quality sound he showed in [...]

We are heartbroken at the news that Amy Winehouse was found dead in her home earlier today. Not surprisingly, many of her fellow musicians are, too. Hordes of artists took to Twitter to celebrate the talented but troubled performer, who, as Lance Bass, Big Boi, and others pointed out in their tweets, died at the same fatal age as Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison. Head below to hear the sorrowful words of Amy's contemporaries. Nicki Minaj : Please tell me Amy [...]
Big Boi and Crown Royal aren't finished promoting their partnership just yet. After putting out The Crown Life mini-documentary this past May, they have continued working together to put on a concert in Washington, D.C. this coming Monday, July 25, at 9:30 p.m. And for those of us who can't make it out, they will also be live streaming the entire gig online. Be sure to head back here on Monday night to watch Big Boi's show, which, from what I've seen, can be pretty damn wild. Can we make requests beforehand? I demand [...]

A few weeks back I wrote up some thoughts on this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival lineup and the bands I wouldn't want to miss if I was able to attend this year. And while a music festival can be a solid wonderment of new artist discovery and seeing those bands you may have never heard of before, I also find it's one of the best ways to see heavy hitters in a compact "pop" setting. So I'd actually choose to see some bands I have seen before as a solid bet for [...]
Hurrah! Big Boi of Outkast fame, who also worked with Janelle Monae last year, is gracing Australia with Theophilus London and Fundamentals. Most of you will know Big Boi's song Shutterbug (which has recently been doing the Triple J rounds). But this guy has a pretty interesting depth to his sound. It's all pretty sublime. Theophilus London is a new favourite of mine. He's a little bit Kanye, a little bit Kid Cudi, but on his debut album he doesn't sample (though he has a cool Lauryn Hill-esque mix "tape" from 2009). Check em [...]

Big Boi's solo album from 2010 Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was many years in the making, but it seems the follow up could be coming even sooner than we think. The Outkast rapper has divulged that he's already got 17 tracks in the bag (which is two more than Lucious Left Foot had, disregarding bonus tracks) and has recorded another collaboration with exciting rising star Janelle Monae. He also has a working title of Daddy Fat Sax: Soul Funk Crusader . Speaking as to the sound of the new material [...]
It turns out that all the hope of an imminent Outkast album is probably premature: Big Boi dropped a bomb on that when he told an Australian website that he has recorded 17 songs for a new album, tentatively titled Daddy Fat Sax: Soul Funk Crusader. The album is the official follow-up to Sir Lucious Left Foot , and Boi says some crazy stuff about it: "It's going to be S-A-X-X-X triple unadulterated funk to the extremest level. Straight lyrical assassin, and the beats are going [...]
