While the big story from Umphrey's McGee's Friday night set at the Summer Camp Music Festival was that they busted out their cover of moe.'s Rebubula for the first time in 14 years, let's not forget that Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic guested on an over-the-top version of Bright Lights, Big City. Lalli helped direct the jam into a dark and intense jam space that rated high on the danceability scale. Just a few days after the sit-in took place, UM has posted pro-shot [...]
The Forecastle Festival is quickly approaching, and we can't wait to see String Cheese Incident pick The Palace late night on Saturday, but have been [...]
The first considerations when attending a music festival on the beach are sartorial. Do you opt for filp-flops to facilitate the inevitable footwear removal and thereby risk blisters from stomping on plastic slabs all day, or do you go with sneakers to account for all that pavement pounding and thereby risk carrying them around all day (or worse, trudging around with sand in your shoes)? Do you wear a swimsuit to allow for a quick dip or more conventional pants so you can keep your phone, wallet and other necessities safely close by? Do you bring along accessories like a [...]

Summerfest's little brother (ostensibly) is shaping up pretty nicely. They just announced a wild lineup to close out Summer with, and I tip my hat off to the organizers for including a respectable mix of established artists (Big Boi, Diplo, Passion Pit) in addition to regional heroes like Lucy Michelle & The Velvet Lapelles along with our favorite DJ and multi-instrumentalist, Big Cats! The fest takes place 8/9-8/11 in sprawling Somerset, Sconny. While you'd likely NEVER need to go to Somerset, WI otherwise, it's a gorgeous spot to camp and drunkenly float down [...]

Keeping in tune with the line up announced in phases trend, Electric Zoo just announced more headlining artists to the three-day festival taking place over Labor Day Weekend on August 30, August 31, and September 1. We dig that Electric Zoo is once again doing that label showcase takeover. On Friday, August 30, the hard-hitting duo of Skrillex and Boys Noize join forces as Dog Blood to curate the Riverside Tent with a Boys Noize Records & OWSLA showcase. For the rest of the weekend, Riverside sees the return of two world-renowned electronic music tastemakers: A-Trak’s [...]

Independent record labels are sprouting up all over the place - in location & style. And the ones that are doing it right not only have a choice selection in catalogue, but also take the time to artfully craft their image as they do their artists. Each of these 12 labels sport some of the most well respected producers & musicians that belong on this blog and create a culture with style around their music. On here I may point out a few that lack in proper online presence, but they are all doing [...]

Hey ninjas. I know, I dropped the ball last week, but allow me to explain. In the midst of trying to get ready to head to the desert for my three day bender, better known as Coachella, I kind of lost track of time. I apologize profusely, and I hope you went back and relived some of the banging CFPP's from yesteryear. I also hope that poor time management skills didn't hinder your ability to party. I know it didn't for me, as you can see by this awesome pic of me getting down in the Sahara Tent. (Courtesy of [...]

We've been talking a lot about Jay-Z lately. I guess that's what happens when you're arguably the greatest rapper alive- people tend to critique your every move, like investigating vacations you and your wife went on to places like, say, Cuba together. But if you're hip-hop icon Sean Carter, you turn the other cheek, and when we say turn the other cheek we mean put out a diss track to silence your critics. So let's put the speculation aside for a minute, and enjoy this re-work of Hov's classic "Can [...]
Big Gigantic drop this remix of Jay-Z’s “Can I Get A…” It’s bomb. Enjoy, and cop the download in the above player.
Big Gigantic remixes Jigga’s 1998 bumper “Can I Get A…” featuring Amil and Ja Rule. Ja’s dropped from the remix entirely but Amil’s “hoo-hoo’s” get spliced up with Jay-Z’s initial question. There is a hell of a lot going on in this song, between the revved up marimba, screwed down verses and including the catchy saxophone breakdown from Dominic Lalli to ride out at the end. It is pretty much what one would imagine when combining Big Gigantic’s skilled instrumentation, melding of hip-hop, jam bands and livetronica with the hit Jay-Z hit. [...]
Pulling vocals and inspiration from the catchy and vibe-filled Jay Z track "Can I Get A...", Big Gigantic transform its iconic beat into an electronic anthem. It is hard to believe it has been fifteen years since "Can I Get A..." dropped, with supporting roles from Ja Rule and Amil, as it featured an experimental, but simple marimba beat that is clear as day even after all this time. In recreating the classic, the Boulder duo gear up their own style, introducing the song to the modern era with a [...]
Yes, dubstep funk has taken over the musical world as we know it now. Because nothing sounds better than synthesizers with bass and extra dirty-ass saxophone dripping all over a record. And Big Gigantic know how the hell to put all of that together in a package that will cause your car dancing to reach a new level of ridiculous. Snag their most recent release below fo' free and enjoy kids.
