photos by Chris La Putt Grace Potter sat in the grass with her guitar Wednesday, outside her home in Waitsfield, and wrote a new song. Its called "The Mad Mad River." For years, Potter had resisted the temptation to write about Vermont, she said. "I thought it was kind of cheesy," Potter said. But in the sunshine Wednesday, a hint of fall in the air a beautiful moment three days after coming home from the road to [...]
Driftwood Fire brings a purity and honesty to Americana that makes it a joy to listen to.

We keep our eyes peeled for new tour dates announcements each week and compile them on Tuesdays for this handy column… For an artist that has seemingly played everywhere and has been apart of a number of historic concerts over the last 40+ years, the one thing that Bob Weir has never done is a proper solo acoustic tour. Well come this summer the former Grateful Dead and current Furthur singer-guitarist can cross that off his bucket list as he will head out for a five-date theater run that kicks off at [...]
Before Nateva Festival came on to the scene last year, Maine had like one festival to its name - The Maine Lobster Festival - which, if I understand correctly , is some orgiastic dionisyian hellscape with literal tons of delicious crustaceans at the ready to consume. But the Nateva Music & Camping Festival will not be dwarfed by some coastal food frenzy. And because the 2010 inaugural Natvea proved, all in all, a success , the fest is returning for another year and another round of jam-heavy headliners. Watch your back, you lobster-loving fucks, cause Natvea's crunchy [...]
Big Head Todd and The Monsters assemble an all-star cast of blues musicians and pay tribute to Robert Johnson for the 100th anniversary of his birth.

"Robert Johnson to me is the most important blues musician who ever lived. He was true, absolutely, to his own vision, and as deep as I have gotten into the music over the last 30 years, I have never found anything more deeply soulful than Robert Johnson. His music remains the most powerful cry that I think you can find in the human voice, really." - Eric Clapton Mention the name Robert Johnson to nearly anyone knowledgeable about that blues and [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Its no wonder why Colorado is generally known for its live music. When that Rocky Mountain wind howls, as it did Saturday night in the parking lot of the Fourmile Canyon Revival Benefit at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo., you want nothing more than to be inside, wrapped up in warm acoustics sipping a local microbrew. But the Rocky Mountain wind that was also responsible for bringing together [...]
For all of you as unaware as myself about news outside of the music industry, on September 6th a fire broke out across Boulder, Colorado's Four Mile Canyon, destroying 166 homes, displacing 3,000 residents, and costing more than $9 million to battle. In response to this disaster, some of Colorado's most well-known bands are pulling together to support the local volunteer fire departments and the mountain residents who were directly impacted by the fire and in critical need of financial support. On October 9th at Broomfield, Colorado's 1stBANK Center, Colorado's own The String Cheese Incident, Big Head Todd & [...]
By: David Schultz EVERY SO OFTEN, I end up at a show where I am completely oblivious as to who's playing. It's a liberating experience to go see a band without a single preconceived notion of what I'm about to hear. This past Friday, Rinjo brought me to see The Gories, a Detroit-based late 80s garage rock band that has recently reunited much to the delight of a middle-aged throng sporting faded

The weather is getting chillier, the leaves on trees are changing - yes autumn has come to Chicago. That of course means only one thing: It's time to starting making plans for which concert to go to on New Year's Eve. Several acts have announced plans to hosts shows in Chicago for the last night of the decade. Girl Talk , aka Gregg Gillis, is bringing his mashed-up, sample driven dance party to the Congress Theater . The show starts at 9:30 pm with $35 tickets already on sale. [...]

Head 'em up, move 'em out! So many of these old prime-time westerns had good themes, but I didn't want to clutter this list with all of them. This one made the cut. It's been covered by dozens of folks, including The Blues Brothers. Rawhide-Big Head Todd and the Monsters Rawhide-Shi Tones
Technically, the archive hosts the biggest collection of covers, but they've got all those original tunes in there, too. I cut through the bullshit and give you the goods. One cover from several of my favorite bands with collections in the archive. Dig it. When the Levee Breaks (Led Zep)-John Popper (of Blues Traveller) Somewhere Over the Rainbow-Jefferson Starship Never Tear Us Apart (INXS)-John Mayer Gimme Some Lovin' (Spencer Davis Group)-G Love and Special Sauce [...]
