The Pains of Being Pure at Heart headlined a hometown show at NYC's Webster Hall this past Friday, May 6th. The indie-pop group were joined by Brooklyn's Twin Shadow and NJ's Big Troubles . Our photographer Kenny Shin was there to grab some great photos of the event. You can check those out over in our photo gallery .

I first found out about Big Troubles after my band had played a show with some of the members who at the time were backing their friend's band Fluffy Lumbers. Their debut LP Worry on Olde English Spelling Bee was recorded by the bands joint songwriter's Alex Craig & Ian Drennan from Ridgewood, New Jersey. It's pretty Lo-fi but you can clearly hear every riff and effect and the levels on the vocals aren't annoyingly beating on your eardrums. Worry drips with the essence of MBV's Loveless. It also has that Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 vibe on some of the songs. Something pretty cool that [...]
The good, the not so good and the great: care to guess which is which?

Big Troubles were recently interviewed by WFMU's Beware of the Blog. The Ridgewood group discussed their obsession with outer-space, Nickelodeon nostalgia and their next record

It's not too often you get a chance to see fantastic bands above 14th street, or really above Houston for that matter, but this Friday WBAR at Barnard College is putting on their annual WBAR-B-Q . I went last year- it was cold and rainy and so inside their somewhat gloomy gym, but it was still worth the trek to see Blues Control and observe real stressed-out college scenester wannabes in their natural environment. A good show AND a good anthropological experiment. This year, the weather is supposed to be nice and the lineup is even better. What wouldn't I [...]

The Twerps are from Australia, and they have been getting a good deal of buzzzzz on the better blogs for the past month or two, and now they're on an American tour. In terms of current bands, they're like one part Strange Boys and one part Girls and one part 70s NYC punk band. It's all jangly with whiny vocals, but the songs have a laconic casualness to the them. They're the chillest punk songs I've heard in awhile. I like 'em a lot, and I think you will, too. And Big Troubles are always fun to catch, plus each [...]

The enigmatic RxRy (who is not Panda Bear ) sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of q and also a . q: What is the last song you (really) heard? a: i have been listening to a lot of Tim Hecker and Big Troubles lately. like, those two records on repeat. Aanrader! Big Troubles Een lapje shoegaze/noise pop uit New Jersey van de band met waarschijnlijk de grappigste website ooit, 'the #1 site for teens!' . Debuut Worry is van vorig jaar, de groove is tijdloos.
So I just found out about these guys because they're playing a show with The Beets tonight nearby. Although their debut LP Worry came out in September 2010, this video just came out a few weeks ago and it describes their sound well: fuzzy, familiar-but-unique, and captivating. If you want to learn more about this 'noise pop' group from Ridgewood, NJ check out their rad angelfire website and listen to their album in full at the Big Troubles bandcamp .

Les Savy Fav shows are hard to describe. In my time I've heard, "crazy," "insane," "fucking great" and, "you know, that was pretty cool." That last quote from a notorious douche bag. The best way to describe one of their shows is to wonder out lout, " was that a show, or was that a piece of performance art." By this time, Les Savy Fav's live shows are widely known as being more than a concert and more like an experience, a highly recommended experience. [...]

Isn't a Les Savy Fav show always great? I remember in 2006 when they came to Swarthmore. Everyone was so, so excited. I think at that time it was supposedly their last tour, so everyone was whipped into a near frenzy over it. Detachment Kit played a killer set first, and by the time LSF took to the stage everyone had already lost their minds. As I recall, it was quite a lot of people writhing around on the floor unable to get up, as Tim Harrington tried to fit his body entirely under our two-foot tiny stage. It was [...]

Big Troubles have quitely made the new video for their song "Georgia" available for your viewing pleasure. The trippy four minute montage was directed by Alexander Lezzi and can be viewed above. The track is off the Ridgewood group's debut LP Worry , which dropped this past September via Olde English Spelling Bee . The album made our Staff's Best of 2010 list. That means you should pick it up! You can do so here or stream it here first. Sort of surprisingly, MTV Brazil [...]

Family Portrait and Big Troubles and hey, even Widowspeak (a band I've never seen before) have been getting a lot of ink on here lately. But this is definitely the best show happening this Friday. I've never seen MINKS. People like them. To me, they sound like Crystal Stils, Girls, and The Drums rolled into one. Except not as good as either Crystal Stilts or Girls. You can decide for yourself here .
