Big Wave Riders hail from Helsinki, Finland, but despite the cold climate they were raised in, the band seems like they spent watching giant waves crash. Their psychedelic post-punk sound calls to mind bands like Tame Impala or The Flaming Lips. The Finnish rockers site their influences as the music that touched them most when they were teenagers. To quote the band : “Our music is not trying to fit into any certain genre. We make music without mathematics or accurate calculations. The songs are fast, slow, rhythmic and with variety” The video for Move [...]

This is not an objective list. By no means. Keep on reading and hear Finland's best music in 2012. 11. Treehouse - Top to bottom The performances in this country flavoured pop album are so proximate and warm that I could not leave this album out of the list. The singing and the harmonies are [...]

It's really hard to narrow down a list of Top Albums of 2012, especially when you have four contributors with different opinions. We gave the reins to Nathan.Lankford and Nicole Baumann on this one, since they write the majority of the album reviews, but we all have a little representation within this. Now, we do realize that our site has specialized tastes, so please realize that these are our OPINIONS . You're welcome to disagree, and, in fact, we encourage that process. Also, we're doing a Top 100 because so many records came out this year, it wouldn't be fair to narrow [...]

Another of the bands who, along with French Films, will be playing at the 'Music Finland' gig on the 22nd are Helsinki's 'Big Wave Riders'. 'Sunny Season', a cacophonous wave of driving vocals and warm orchestral chords, is their latest release. I think its pretty fantastic. Shitty computerized strings have never sounded this good...

Finland's French Films and Big Wave Riders are giving away a split 7" to the first 50 people that turn up to their show this Thursday at Knotting Hill Arts club.

Here are the songs we played whilst manning the figurative decks tonight/right now/last night in the booth at the fabulous River Gods in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Avail yourself of all the relevant linkage; if you have any questions or want to know more, hit us on Twitter or drop a comment. We may or may not do Spotify playlists of these sets in the coming days and post links here; watch this space. Also, please click over to Bradley's Almanac and check out Brad's playlists for the 9PM and 11PM hours, which we expect will be posted [...]
Since the dawn of this century, the Nordic countries have enjoyed a healthy dose of admiration for their indie music scene, yet the spotlight rarely shined on Finland. Well, that may soon change. The most sparsely populated country in the European Union finally has a hope for an international indie rock breakthrough, and they are called Big Wave Riders. Unlike the bulk of Scandinavian music that seem to mull over the introspectiveness, the Helsinki-based quintet celebrates life, with all its ups, downs, and idiosyncrasies, with little time for rumination. Last September, Big Wave Riders released a seven-track [...]

I'm not sure why people aren't taking as much notice of Soliti Music as we are here at ATH. They've already released great records this year by Big Wave Riders and Cats on Fire , and I have a feeling their latest release from Delay Trees is going to be something truly special. This new single from the band is an homage to their hometown, hitting upon the town's beauty, yet the hopelessness of being stuck there. I think I'm going to play this song [...]
I've been playing these guys a lot on turntable.fm and so I thought I'd post I video from them to get the word out. Big Wave Riders hail from Helsinki, Finland. Their debut album "Life Less Ordinary" came out August 24, 2012.

Tweet After a series of well fit singles that began back it 2010 with the excellent 'It's Funny Things Aren't Gonna Change', Helsinki pop/rock outfit Big Wave Riders released their debut album, Life Less Ordinary last week. Containing ten tracks, it sports a myriad of approaches, from the straight forward pop of 'Waiting In The Wings' which we featured earlier this year in our Top 30 to the dance feel of 'Disco Lies' and the more Brit-pop 90s driven, 'Move On'. Look out [...]

You can now finally buy indie rockers Big Wave Riders debut album Life Less Ordinary. And I recommend that you do buy as it is one of the best releases this year. Watch their new psychedelic video for the track Sunny Season.
Finnish indierockers Big Wave Riders have a new video for the track "Sunny season" .

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Finnish band Big Wave Riders burst onto the music scene with a pretty solid self-titled EP, and as they've spent more time together you can tell that the band's grown in leaps and bounds. Life Less Ordinary is an album that evades classification, demonstrating one of those rare acts that's just going out there to put together the best songs they've written and giving them to their fans. Opener, "Waiting in the Wings" might have a [...]
