Last Weds, Bill Callahan, of Smog fame, played in front of a packed sweaty crowd in a small man made cavern under a hill on Lexington rd. Louisville Artist Mike Ratterman and his wife Annie hosted this small show of about 200 people in the limestone brick cavern under their home that some believe was first made to haul Cholera victims safely to Cave hill Cemetery for burial. The show was promoted by Ryan Davis of Sophomore Lounge and Ratterman, both of whom decided to keep this show quiet due to the limited space and notoriety of the headliner. [...]

" The soul of your country called and left you a message. Seven messages " schreibt Drag City in der Ankündigung des fünfzehnten Albums von Bill Callahan, der früher unter dem Pseudonym Smog werkelte. "Apocalypse" [...]

Words by Brendan The holiday weekend has come and gone. You're back from wherever you went to stand around a grill and drink beer with those relatives you only see twice a year. Or maybe you've been in town all along and you're still catching up on lost sleep from a hectic weekend (like me). Whatever your status, it's back to the summer concert season this weekend, and you've got plenty of options coming up in the next few days. Garage rock at the 31st Street Pub, folk rock at the Carnegie Museum, our [...]
Snazzy! The rad new video from Bill Callahan.

Just in time for the most patriotic hangover of the year, ease back with a cup of coffee and a new Bill Callahan video this morning. America! Connect with Bill Callahan: Facebook // Website
Bill Callahan's "America!" is in the tradition of those tongue-in-cheek pro-American country songs, so it's no surprise that its video is tongue-in-cheek too: It's all animated cowboy hats, oil rigs, pizza, airplanes, and militiamen. It's a goofy video, played in the middle of a goofy internet show called Friday Night Somewhere. It starts at the 7:30 minute mark above. Peep it for your post-Independence Day hangover. [ P4K ]

Bill Callahan , the artist sometimes known as Smog , has premiered the new animated video for track 'America!' on trippy internet talk show Friday Night Somewhere in time for Independence Day. Psychedelic all-American images glide slowly across the screen whilst Callahan's laid-back vocals croon over slick guitar solos, and a groovy mid-tempo drum beat. Callahan's label Drag City announced the premier on their website, saying: "Again and again, AMERICA! Yeah, that special weekend is upon us. In ever-patriotic style, Colonel Bill Callahan got something special for all y'all Drag [...]

Not sure what this is all about because I am already a little tipsy from the Independence Day celebrations of heat and beer. But I do know that this is almost EXACTLY like the nightmares I have been having since I was mugged outside the opera when I was a child?
Click here to view the embedded video. Featuring animated versions of Captain Kristofferson, Buck Sergeant Newbury, Sergeant Cash, etc. It's pretty great. Callahan will be at the Wexner Center this Thursday, July 7. Happy Fourth.
Long time underground folk aficionado Bill Callahan is promoting his latest record, Apocalypse , a lo-fi sounding, folk riddled record which relies mainly on his Southern baritone and riveting guitar strings. The musician has just premiered a new video for the song "America" on the popular Internet talk show, Friday Night Somewhere. The clip is all entirely animated, displaying slides of American landmarks including San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, the flashing lights of Las Vegas, NASA space shuttles, and many scenes of the Old West. It than becomes more affiliated with America's contribution to war, showcasing soldiers, [...]
Bill Callahan says "Happy Birthday America!" except not quite... Apocalypse is in stores now.

As you scarf down a few dogs and burgs this afternoon, and light off gunpowder into the wee hours of the morning, I found it fitting (or sardonically witty in a lot of ways), to post the video for Bill Callahan's killer track, "America," on this celebratory day. Enveloped in heavy satiric wit and irony, this track is one of my favorites this year. Additionally, the video (it hit the webs a couple of days ago), is one of the best I've seen all year, as well. So go watch some David Letterman, even if you're not [...]
What better way to celebrate July 4th than with Bill Callahan's ode to the U.S. of A, 'America!'. Laced with Callahan's characteristic irony, the song sits in the centre of his latest album Apocalypse . The music video is preceded by the fourth episode of online variety show Friday Night Somewhere , where presenter Cabby interviews the tattoo artist James Jacobs. Then at 7 minutes 29 seconds (to be precise), the animated clips starts, a vibrant collage of American imagery by Texas art collective Okay Mountain ; pictures of strolling cowboy boots, postcards [...]

Happy Fourth everyone, enjoy the weekend! Bill Callahan - "America!"
