The bluesy festival favorite takes on a slice of cheery Swedish pop.

Seasick Steve - "Go To Hell" (Billie the Vision & the Dancers Cover) After seven years spent releasing free LPs via their own Love Will Pay The Bills label, Swedish pop outfit Billie the Vision & the Dancers are set to drop a best-of compilation composed of their most beloved tracks. Included in the 2-disc collection are cover versions by the Pipettes, Little Marbles, and others. One standout, which has been on repeat around here for the past week, is Jack White pal Seasick Steve's stunning recording of 2005 [...]

I generally ignore all incoming pr emails. But it was hard to not be interested in this new double cd collection from Billie The Vision and the Dancers . It's a best of sort of. Disc one is a collection of some of the "hits" the band has had over the year while disc two is collection of artists covering Billie songs. Go To Hell (Performed by Seasick Steve) Summercat

by teepoo Billie and the Vision and the Dancers is hella a name. The group is from Malmö, Sweden but Summercat charted them at #1 in Spain after appearing in a Spanish TV ad. It's one of those tongue-and-cheek pop songs that make the perfect song for sync license. Add in some horns and you got something fun and addictive. I love the guitar lick that is almost a melody unto itself. I can't stop singing the chorus. I wanna be with you tonight, tonight, [...]
We recently got an email from reader Caitlin with the simple subject line "A Must." We were intrigued. Enclosed was a link to this video. Forget that this is a beer commercial. Because the song is disturbingly catchy. The band has a cumbersome name "Billie the Vision & the Dancers". All we know about them is that they are Swedish. And that is all you really need to know. Because Sweden pops out

As you might have noticed, lately I've developed a thinly-veiled preference for covers. Should I face it and just transform this blog into a covers-only one? I admit there are lots of pros to posting covers. They take less time to prepare draft, the source is perpetual, and I love seeing songs I heard before in new coats. Plus any song covered should, by default, be at least half-decent. I do have a thing for rarities, be it covers, remixes, acoustic versions, demos or unreleased tracks. But on the other hand, I still want to talk about new artists and [...]

La canción en cuestión abría su primer album, "I Was So Unpopular in School and Now They're Giving Me This Beautiful Bicycle", [...]

Billie The Vision and the Dancers. This band out of Malmö, Sweden started back in 2004 when singer/songwriter Lars Lindquist had an idea to record some of his work. Unfortunately, he didn't feel he could do it alone, so he recruited a series of friends and went into the studio. Over the next few months I Was So Unpopular In School and Now They're Giving Me This Beautiful Bicycle was recorded. Gaining popularity through some local shows word spread around the country. Eventually, they became such a hit [...]
Thanks to the Let's Trade Mix Tapes blog for a tip on Future Perfect Radio, a music streaming site that I've been enjoying all week. FPR offers several channels devoted to different types of Indie music by genre and by location (a Michigan channel was recently added). After clicking around my options, I settled on [...]

El Zoológico - The Jungle & The Aquarium ( by-nc-sa ) El Zoológico - The Jungle & The Aquarium Zip mp3 I first heard about this album through hiddenplacemusic , via twitter . It is a nifty little double album of poptronica. Since I've been listening it for a bunch of months, I can enumerate my favorite songs by now. Monkey is an uptempo glitch dancing tune, quick, but intense. The Brother Bear [...]

This hasn't been the best year for Sweden. Throughout 2006-2007, it seemed like any band with a Jens or Johan or Annika or Bjorn in it was a serious contender to win over my heart. In comparison, 2008 has been a little lackluster. First, Peter Bjorn & John released Seaside Rock , a bland palette cleanser designed to wash away any residual "Young Folks" hype; and then I'm From Barcelona followed-up their tremendous debut Let Me Introduce My Friends with Who Killed Harry Houdini? , an album so disappointing I [...]
In this cold and rainy time of the year I would rather stay in bed all day, under a warm and cosy duvet with a cup of tea in my hand, in a room that smells of vanilla scented candles, and listen to some music, than go out in the chilly weather. I made a playlist that is suitable for that exact occasion: Fleet Foxes - Meadowlarks The Coral - Jacqueline [...]

Our next tribute to the Swedish pop scene is one of my favorites. A 7-piece band from Mälmo, Billie the Vision & the Dancers are the epitome of pop, from chamber to folk, indie and twee…just add pop next to it and you've got their sound spot on. From their first album back in 2004 I Was So Unpopular In School and Now They're Giving Me This Beautiful Bicycle to their latest I Used to Wander These
After last year's uneven "Where the ocean meets my hand" , Billie and his band of twee warriors have returned with what is easily their most consistent album, and also their best. Most notably, the band has added a proper drumkit this time around, and the time was ripe for such a maneuver, as bongos can only take you so far (even Guster realized this one). The drums, therefore allow their songs to groove like they haven't done before, thus "Lily From the Middleway Street" and "Swedish sin" are great, driving songs. And with [...]
Swedish indiepop acts Palpitation , Billie the Vision and the Dancers and Sad Day for Puppets will play a special show together at UT Connewitz in Leipzig October 2, presented by FRWRD Booking and radio program 45minutes.
