Download Festival have announced a veritable swathe of additional acts that will be gracing their festival at Donington Park this Summer. There's even a fair few heavyweights in this announcement, including Megadeth, Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, Slash, and Thrash Hits' personal favourite purveyors of intellectual metal, Five Finger Death Punch . The other names announced today are Steel Panther, As I Lay Dying, Kyuss Lives! (whom we've had more than a little to say about in the past , and from more than one point of [...]

Toronto's Billy Talent have announced that they will begin recording their album beginning November 28th. The band is aiming to release the album early next year and has already begun planning international touring in support. The album will be the first since Billy Talent III in 2009 and we're going to assume it's going to be titled Billy Talent IV or maybe Live Free or Billy Talent since Die Hard rules usually apply in ambiguous cases like this.
Getty Images Canada rocks - from its landscape to its multiculturalism to its beer and music. Compiling a list of great Canadian hard rock bands of all time is a daunting assignment that will invite many criticisms and this list is not without ifs and buts. But the task is the fairly definable "hard rock" genre, meaning no metal, no punk, no screamo, no industrial and no straight-up melodic rock. So that cuts out a range of Canadian rockers: Max Webster, Alexisonfire , Headstones, Nickelback , Prism, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, [...]

Although I would say I am not too clued up on the punk music scene, it's nice to hear some proper good old English punk rock for a change. In the case of Max Raptor they have shown that English punk rock really has progressed to its finest point. 'The King Is Dead' is Max Raptor's third single release from their debut album Portraits. Touring and playing with the likes of fellow Brits The Stranglers and Canadian post-hardcore band Billy Talent, these guys are slowly climbing their way up the punk rock ladder making their way to legend status; closely [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Canada Sheer madness was expected when it was announced that one of Canada's biggest rock bands, Billy Talent , would be playing a free show at the tiny, venerable Toronto institution, the Horseshoe Tavern, Tuesday night -- especially since only three months ago the band headlined a sold-out show at the Air Canada Centre sports arena just down the street. While there was no line outside the bar -- presumably because many of their fans are underage or figured it would [...]

'Hey, f--- fog,' joked Billy Talent lead singer Ben Kowalewicz as the band accepted Rock Album of the Year during Saturday night's non-televised Juno Awards gala, having only barely made it to St John's, Newfoundland while many other winners and their families were still not present to accept. (As Newfoundland-born broadcaster and host Seamus O'Regan said to kick off the show, "We have a saying here: 'coulda been worse, coulda been volcanic ash!") "We had Maverick and Goose as our pilots," he elaborated backstage. "They were like, 'we're just gonna [...]

Filed under: News , Canada Juno Cup, the highly anticipated hammy hockey game pitting ex-NHLers against musicians, all in the name of charity, good fun and ice-bound Canadian competitiveness, took place Friday evening at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay, Newfoundland, as part of the week-long Juno Awards festivities. Perhaps not surprisingly, the musicians lost, 9 to 8. The annual game -- now in its seventh year -- is the highlight event leading up to the Juno Awards presentations (Canada's Grammy equivalent) Saturday and Sunday nights in celebration [...]
