It rained during the night but not nearly enough. Most of it on the road has already dried. The day is damp but warm and quite still. I opened the windows upstairs and could smell freshly mowed grass. Dampness seems to accentuate smells, and my nose was filled with the sweet smell of that grass, the flowers in the front garden and an earthy smell of dirt. The day is chilly but still lovely with lots of sun and only a few clouds. On the way to breakfast I noticed trees with leaves and others with blossoms, some white and some pink. Spawns of Satan is already taken so I don't know what to call the bird that pecks the side of my house and wakes me up. It has found the most inaccessible spot for me to get at it to shoo it away. I'm thinking a hose with the water at its strongest will reach the spot and scare away the bird. Patterson must grind out a book every month which is probably why his novels are getting shorter and shorter like Mary Higgins Clark's did with all the blank pages between chapters.
