Native Richmonders turned North Carolinians Skylar Gudasz and the Ugly Girls return to the city to play at Ashland Coffee and Tea on Feb. 9 in support of their debut release, "Two Headed Monster." It's a nice collection of somber yet upbeat folk tunes that definitely worth checking out.
On Friday, Oct. 7, I made my way up to Motorco Music Hall in Durham for the opening reception of Minus Sound Research . Horse to Water is the soulful project of someone I've known for awhile but in a very different, non-musical context. So this is, of course, a pleasant surprise. There is a great deal of range in Joe's work. I can't decide which I like best: the folksy Americana or the quicker-paced songs with bits of distortion.
