THE RACONTEURS, BIRDS OF AVALON (Wonder Ballroom, 128 NE Russell) Mr. White or not, I pity the Raconteurs for having to follow Birds of Avalon. Anyone thats seen BoA, or Paul and Cheeties former band Cherry Valence, knows the heat those dueling North Carolina guitars bring. They make melodic, progressive 1970s rock sound so fucking immediate. Obviously then, being progressive, BoA have some serious chops. The Raleigh, NC based Birds of Avalon have announced a new EP due out on <a href=" http://www.volcoment.com/"Volc om Entertainment on March 18th titled Outer Upper Inner . The band has also revealed a slew of upcoming tour dates for the month of March, seemingly in support of the new EP. The EP was recorded by Mitch Easter (REM, Pavement, Wilco ), who used an elaborate four track analog set up. A sample MP3 is available here .
