This, the debut album from The Birthday Suit opens with 'Do You Ever?', a track with plenty of clout, slipping cleanly and effortlessly into 'Hope Me Home', a jaunty, cheerful number, with bright and bubbly harmonies. The vocals on this are far clearer and crisper than its predecessor. 'Sell It All' has that predictable drum-solo intro, but, as usual, it spells This Is Good, demanding your full attention. 'Sell It All' starts a little weak (intro aside) but it soon picks itself up and turns into a really very nice little pop song. [...]
They say you should never meet your heroes, thankfully for Idlewild's Rod Jones, he was spared the joy of having to speak to me in person. What with the band that he made his name with, going on an indefinite hiatus (damn you At The Drive In for ever coining that phrase), Rod has been keeping himself busy a new project by the name of The Birthday Suit. What with his partner in crime Roddy Woomble having morphed into a folk singer, Rod has gone in the opposite direction and gone back to his rock roots. The one thing that [...]

Whilst Idlewild have been on hiatus, guitarist / songwriter Rod Jones has been busy with his solo project The Birthday Suit . Their debut album, The Eleventh Hour , came out just last week. The album is a return to the noisy pop moments that originally established him so firmly in the UK music scene. Tracks like Do You Ever? and On My Own hark back to the 100 Broken Windows -esque sounds that made Idlewild one of our best indie exports. However, it's the more introspective [...]

The Birthday Suit From: Edinburgh, Scotland While Roddy Woomble focuses on disappearing up his own backside his Idlewild comrade in arms Rod Jones is revisiting the noisy indie pop that made the Scottish noiseniks such a formidable band. Jones' new venture The Birthday Suit makes a tuneful racket akin to the Idelwild debut album 100 Broken Windows which is preferable to the folky musings of his erstwhile colleague. [...]

Fonda , "Some Things Aren't Worth Knowing" — Since we premiered the title track from their EP "Better Days" back in May, good things have happened for Fonda. The release has been picked up by Chicago-based label Minty Fresh , which will release and expanded version of "Better Days" on vinyl on Nov. 28. Yes, that means more music, including this track, with Emily Cook's vocals recalling latter-period Lush. The Birthday Suit , "Do You Ever?" — We miss Scottish rockers Idlewild [...]
