Drawing from minimalism, electronica, and indie rock, Nate Kinsella's Birthmark offers an entrancing mélange of musical expression that intrigues and delights. Inspired by Steve Reich, Birthmark was established to "do minimalism, crazy pitched percussion pop music"; while not quite succeeding in this intention, the music uses minimalistic strings, marimba, vibraphone, and percussion with atypical song structures and a wisp of pop sensibilities. Polyvinyl Records has announced the third full-length album, Antibodies , from Birthmark, the project of Nate Kinsella. Featuring some of the most dynamic instrumentation likely to be heard on an album this year, the album features vibraphones, violins, cellos, clarinets, and more. Each instrument was played either by Kinsella or a session musician, including the backwards string section on "Shake Hands". Birthmark's Antibodies will release May 15th.
