Bishi has announced the release of Albion Voice, the follow-up... Bishi has announced the release of Albion Voice , the follow-up to her 2007 debut Nights at the Circus. It "explores themes of Britain ancient and modern, the rich tapestry of East London's folklore, social politics and cultural mix providing a vivid backdrop to the writing." The title track is a typical piece of Bishi-folk and is about the search for identity in a multicultural world.

Bishi 's new single Dia Ti Maria is an 9 minute epos with Bishi singing all 50 (!) voices of the choral piece herself. Inspired by the Greek Orthodox liturgy, the first and last sections are written in Koine (Biblical) Greek; the English lyrics are quotes from the speeches of Satan in Milton's Paradise Lost . Dia Ti Maria is out on November 14 - yet you can already hear it above - and is backed with "a medieval folk song going witchouse."

My mind is blank Looking back, I first wrote about Bishi around this time last year. But in case you missed that post, here's a re-cap. Bishi is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ. English born but with Bengali parents, she mixes the western influnces and styles of her upbringing with the instruments, arrangements and sounds of her ancestry. Her look is equally striking.
