Tweet Torn between a warped and jangling demeanour early doors 'Old Boys' soon hits its groove, and in the process becomes a splendid porthole into the sort of music that Sweden's Labrador Records has been producing for years. Bishop Morocco are very much a Canadian proposition though, despite being decamped in Europe for many moons. The twin creative forces of Jake Fairley and Jim Sayce had previous creative incarnations together before meeting quite by chance in Northern Holland after some time apart. [...]
Filed under: Monthly Mixtape Flickr March is over. The trees are budding early, the flowers are blooming into a bounty of spring colors, Valdimir Putin is the president of Russia again, Rush Limbaugh called a respectable human being a "slut" and the earth ticks ever closer to the end of times. So what better way to await the arrival of the alien drone destroyers than this kick-ass mixtape. After you buy extra water and batteries, unplug [...]

Bishop Morocco is the musical vision of James Sayce and Jake Fairly. The Toronto-based duo recorded its 2008 self-titled debut at a homemade studio inside their shared in Groningen, Netherlands, earning international attention from the likes of Parisian tastemaker Collette and helping develop a strong following at home in Canada. Two years later, Bishop Morocco arrives on Arts & Crafts with Old Boys, a six-track EP on which the band strays from its original new wave influences towards a thicker, more contemplative sound, aided by the addition of Ian Worang on guitar and Jon McCann on [...]

With their second release, Old Boys , Bishop Morocco join the fast-growing ranks of young, enterprising Canadian acts – along with fellow Arts & Crafts signees Trust and Chilly Gonzales – who are finding increasingly inventive ways to weave their nostalgic musical sensibilities into some of the most compelling new music around. Rather than the icy synthpop or string-laden hip-hop favored by their respective, aforementioned peers, the Toronto-based duo of Jake Fairley and James Sayce deal in the sort of jagged, spiky post-punk akin to that of The Smiths and early-day Cure that's grown increasingly hard to pass off as remotely original in [...]

Bishop Morocco's 2010 got them noticed by Arts & Crafts. They are releasing a new EP March 13th Old Boys . I wasn't really in to the old record but since being signed, their sound has changed a bit. The music sounds much more full and with more focus on where they want to be. Check out the textured title track. Bishop Morocco- Old Boys

Bishop Morocco - Old Boys [Right click [...]

There are plenty of bands around that pilfer from the synth-heavy pop sounds of the '80s. Some do it well, some don't; Bishop Morocco falls into the former category. The band will release the Old Boys EP through Arts & Crafts on March 13. I wrote about it for Exclaim! , and you can hear the effectively wonky title track below.

Toronto natives Bishop Morocco have released a new video for the title track off their Old Boys EP, out on March 13 via Arts & Crafts. The video was directed by Eva Michon, and depicts the ghost of a young woman (fashion designer Rita Leifhebber) possessing a teenage girl while she and her friends experiment with an Ouija Board. Toronto's Bishop Morocco was one the acts who I manage to catch at the Arts & Crafts Showcase during Pop Montreal . I found out that the band used to be on Hand Drawn Dracula and now jumped ship to Arts & Crafts . So far the band is going to drop their EP "Old Boys" on March 13, 2012. Listening to the whole EP of six tracks. It has that indie retro new wave pop-rock sound of the 1980s. Reminisced [...]

The times have seen Toronto-based duo Bishop Morocco double their numbers to become a foursome on their forthcoming EP Old Boys . The record comes out on March 13th. The band have always had an obvious New Wave influence in their sound, and that's no different on Old Boys . However, there is a new darkness that's been injected into tracks like "City Island", that balances both melody and melancholy. Continue reading »

Though that picture looks kind of creepy, Bishop Morocco, the project of James Sayce and Jake Fairley, make music that recalls '80s alternative. Their debut six song EP Old Boys will be available on March 13th through Arts & Crafts. Download the title track below for the price of your email. Read more »
Nearly everything about this Bishop Morocco track, "Old Boys," feels familiar and done before. However, there's just a certain charm to it that keeps it playing softly in the back of my head, making me excited for the band's forthcoming EP on Arts & Crafts. Title: Old Boys . Date: March 13th. I suppose the production is pretty great, and features some nice, light swirls of guitars and synths. The lazy vocals create a pretty sedate attitude, which ends up being more alluring than boring. Definitely something I'd recommend if you were into that Craft Spells [...]
Toronto band Bishop Morocco have finally signed a deal to Arts & Crafts who are putting out their debut EP proper, 'Old Boys'. Stream the title track below and grab it free from their website.

Tweet vaso link The opening to Bishop Morocco's "Old Boys" sounds like it's been left outside to warp in the sun and then played back; then things kick in and it makes perfect sense, not at all misshaped. And the track is a brief, soft-spoken slice of indie pop. It's got the slight, slow slap of drums and a buoyant guitar line supporting it. It's space-y and floating and a great introduction to a band I was previously unaware of. [...]
