According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 1.78 million students will graduate with bachelor's degrees this year. Then they will enter the workforce, and the vulgarities I will hurl at the thought of that many more people competing against me to find a job will be heard at the furthest reaches of the galaxy. Oft earmarked – quite incomprehensibly – as indispensable progenitors of the equally frequently derided 'post-rock' genre, Bitch Magnet were always sparkier than the anaesthetised references hurled their way during their lamentably brief sojourn in the heart and ringing ears of the American independent underground. A formative band for Don Caballero and consequently for contemporary heroes Battles, the trio initially comprised of bassist and lead vocalist Sooyoung Park, drummer Orestes Morfin and guitarist Jon Fine (who coincidentally toured with the former) last year reunited to tour the fuck out of a world that's sorely missed their ravaging presence and [...]

Ignore the stupid name. Why these guys released their music under a moniker that sounds like something your cousin would have come up with for his shitty junior high school punk band, we may never know. Bitch Magnet only recorded for three short years from 1988 to 1990 and released an equal number of albums, but the impact they had on post-rock and early '90s indie can't be understated. Despite this, these releases remained largely out-of-print and criminally underheard. That should hopefully change now, with a new three-disc reissue that packages them all in one bundle. [...]

Bitch Magnet, a seminal post-punk band started in the '80s at Oberlin College in Ohio, is re-releasing its entire library of studio albums, including a few unreleased tracks from the early days, on December 6 via Temporary Residence Limited. For many, Bitch Magnet paved the way for many similar-sounding groups to emerge in the '90s [...]
Nothing did more to further the cause of Alternative Nation-building than 120 Minutes, MTV's Sunday-night video showcase of non-mainstream acts. For nearly two decades, the program spanned musical eras from '80s college rock to '00s indie, with grunge, Britpop, punk, industrial, electronica and more in between. MAGNET raids the vaults to resurrect our 120 favorite and unjustly forgotten [...]

Some two decades ago, Bitch Magnet began their rise to the top of America's burgeoning post-hardcore subculture with the noisy, feedback-heavy, angst-fueled chords of Umber 's lead-single "Motor". Now less than a month out from ending a lengthy hiatus with a live show in Seoul, and subsequent performance at ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas , the trio is kickstarting volume two of their career with the same classic track. Cut from their forthcoming eponymous titled box set , the crisp, even more powerful, remastered "Motor" is just small piece of the 34-track career spanning compilation. Revisit the track below, being [...]

It's now safe to go ahead and add seminal post-punk icons Bitch Magnet to the expansive list of talent All Tomorrow's Parties can take credit for reuniting. According to a press release, it was an invitation from Battles, who are co-curating ATP: Nightmare Before Christmas , that coaxed Bitch Magnet from an early retirement. Now, the Ohio-turned-North Carolina post-hardcore are set to offer another slightly skewed Xmas gift when they reissue their groundbreaking studio recordings with an eponymously-titled three-disc box set. The collection will include the group's three studio recordings, Ben Hur , Umber , [...]

Temporary Residence has unveiled plans to reissue the complete discography from post-punk/noise pioneers Bitch Magnet . Mac McCaughan of Superchunk and Merge Records commented on the band, describing their sound and influence: Bitch Magnet created this amazing equilibrium between heaviness/prettiness and density/space. These juxtapositions were explored by a ton of bands at the time, but Bitch Magnet wrote songs. Due out December 6th, 2011 , the triple-LP and triple-CD sets will include five previously-unreleased early versions of songs recorded nearly a year before the sessions for [...]

Temporary Residence Limited has announced that it will re-release the complete studio recordings from Bitch Magnet. On November 15, Temporary Residence will package Bitch Magnet's three albums - Star Booty, Umber, and Ben Hur - as a deluxe, limited edition triple-LP set and as a triple CD.
