Fran is Oliver Koletzki's wife so it's only natural that her album gets released on his own label Stil Vor Talent. She loves Björk whick makes it an influence you can obviously hear and drove her to try something quite... READ MORE

Moosic, moosic, moosic The news spread quickly on Saturday evening that the hardworking put-upon staff of HMV stores in Cork, Limerick and Tallaght had vacated the premises having acquired a written guarantee from the administrator that wages owed will be paid on Friday as planned. Fingers crossed now that is the case. Today's playlist is specifically dedicated to all the staff who staged the various sit-ins, with all tracks taken from Icelandic bands seeing as their country has blossomed since showing authorities they simply would no longer put up with their inept [...]

After reviewing Plum and Pumajaw recently Ralph's continuing in his mission to bring you the best in Scottish electronica. With that in mind he could go no further than introduce the sublime Fiona Soe Paing , based in Aberdeenshire and who has been evolving her unique brand of experimental, vocal-led electronica since 2007. Diane Sagnier Tame Impala's second album Lonerism topped more than a few 2012 year-end lists, and while it doesn't do much for me - despite on paper being exactly the sort of thing I should like - if you were to say that Kevin Parker was behind one of the year's finest psychedelic pop records, I would be inclined to agree with you. Except that I would be talking about Melody's Echo Chamber . Describing Melody's Echo Chamber as the [...]
Can an album that is just a sample of a larger series of previously released Biophilia have much to add? Surprisingly, the answer is yes. Your enjoyment of Bjrk's recent recordings is more than likely determined by your willingness to embrace her increasingly extreme flights of high-concept artistic fancy. For Medulla we had an album made almost entirely of vocal samples; Drawing Restraint 9 was a whale-obsessed soundtrack to her partner Matthew Barney's art film project, which fused East and West, old and new in sound and subject matter; Biophilia was released as a collection of interactive [...]
Nominee for the 2013 BRITs Critics’Choice Award and ranked highly in fourth place for the BBC Sound of 2013, Laura Mvula announces the release of new single, ‘Green Garden’ on 24 February 2013 through RCA Victor (Sony). New single ‘Green Garden’ taken from the debut album ‘Sing to the Moon’, is an uplifting track which infuses Laura’s signature use of percussive chimes painted with enchanting harmonies - a unique sound that has wowed critics helping to make her one of names everyones lips in 2013. [...]

About to ride high on the current tsunami of electro/pop sweeping the country are Scottish masters of the art Pumajaw , who are in the throes of planning a gig assault on Britain and Europe. The release of the album Demonmeowmeow at the end of 2011 saw them tour Europe where for some reason they are more revered than back in the Old Country. Maybe the more cosmopolitan nature of the Italians is better suited to Pumajaw's 'music is [...]
6. Bjork - Human Behaviour The only act to get two tracks into the top 20, this time we see Bjork being stalked by either an extreme furry, or else someone struggling with a prototype onesie. This would also win MTV's "Breakthough video" for the year. [Part of 1993 all over again ] [Buy: Buy: Debut ] -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch
Although we have a bright new year waiting to be written upon, let's not forget that January is two-faced, looking back as well as forward. And no day is more push-me-pull-you than New Year's Day itself. So, to show 2013 what sort of challenges it will need to rise to and to lob in a few lazy posts of embeds , let's hold hands and countdown the 20 best singles of 20 years ago, as decided upon by the NME. 20: Bjork - Venus As A Boy Possibly the point where we should have said [...]

The 15 Best Gigs of 2012 in The World (that I attended)! Primavera Sound at the Forum Barcelona, Spain: Coverage My first experience at Primavera Sound was so amazing that it prompted me to purchase tickets for the following year prior to any lineup announcements. Just a few of the acts I saw were: The Cure, Saint Etienne (as the clock struck 12 on my birthday), Justice, The Xx, Sleigh Bells, Grimes, Friends, The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand, [...]

Releasing a track on Christmas eve is always a bit edgy, but in this particular case we couldn't have thought of a better moment. Howl 's new track Lost In The Snow carries on where he left off with his most recent EP Hart , that grey voice of his drenched in a cosy lo-fi and ambient guitar sound (really reminding us of King Krule this time around). The video is cut footage of clips Howl has taken of friends over the last year and a half, which fit the track like a charm. [...]
Jean-Louis Brossard is Art Director at the Rencontres Trans Musicales Festival in Rennes. At this year's 34th edition of the festival we talked with him about his passion for music, the beginnings of the “Trans” in the ambiance of the 70ies and how he discovers talents for the wide ranged line-up. “Music is there for
