Black Books announced their arrival with the appropriately titled EP An Introduction To...and those of us who enjoy their dreamscapes have had to wait until this January for the follow up. But it's finally here, and it's more of their trademark floating-above-the-clouds brilliance. Ross, Meg, Clarke, Kevin, and Mike -- the lineup features the all-too-rare singing drummer -- have hit on a sound they call Southern Dream Pop, which is fairly apt as three-word descriptions go. For a longer one, try some words from the blog Yvynyl: "Listening to this is like wrapping up in a navajo blanket and [...]
![[SXSW 2012] Bands To See (Part 1)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4126197_lg.jpg)
As most music junkies know, SXSW 2012 is upon us.. And like many of you waiting on the music portion to start, I am counting down the days. Counting. In preparation for the big event, I have RSVP'd to at least 50 parties, that I remember, and have begun my spreadsheet.. Yes, I said spreadsheet. It is truly the only way to calm your nerves when attending this event. Even if I don't follow it, I can always look to see where I might want to be and when.. this may also be decided by who [...]

MOKB has already announced a couple of other parties for this year at SXSW. In addition to those, we are very happy to announce that we are teaming up with the fine folks at Paper Garden Records . We are taking over Uncorked, a beautiful outdoor space overlooking Downtown Austin, located on 900 East 7th Street from 3pm until 11pm on Thursday, March 15th. The event is completely free to the public and a SXSW badge is not necessary for entry. The event is sponsored by Vitamin Water, Thinglink, Threads 4 Thought, and [...]

I really don't like these lists very much. It is pretty much impossible to say who will have a good year, who will plod along as usual, who will split up or vanish without a trace, or anything else. It's also hard to say what counts as having a good year. Playing to a wee tent at at festival? A "triumphant" sell out gig to about 150 people in Glasgow or Edinburgh? The whole exercise always seems a tad pointless to me, you'd be better off sticking some band names on the wall and throwing darts to select them. That [...]

We're coming to the end of the good times, and the weekend is chock full of excellent shows to catch. I encourage you all to get out and support/see as many bands as possible, as that's what keeps our music community energized...which is something we all claim makes Austin great, so we gotta support it. Here are my suggestions. Punk Show @ Mohawk - A Giant Dog, OBN IIIs, Grape Street - Some of the best acts in Austin for rock n' roll of the faster sort. Quiet Company [...]

12/23/11- Friday's featured mp3s are; Radiohead; The Daily Mail Rodeo; Lana Deth Rey Black Books; Out The Door Royal Baths; Darling Devine
While we sort of creep further into hibernation during the Holiday season, it's nice to receive a solid track from local band Black Books . The track, called "Out the Door" is available for free below and will be a part of the group's upcoming debut full length album due out on Valentine's Day 2012. It's a great tune full of those reverb laden vocals and slow burn we've grown to love about the band. Black Books also recently recorded a cover of classic tune "Love Fool" by The Cardigans which is available to stream over [...]

From their forthcoming self-titled debut, due on Valentine's Day 2012. A bit past "shoegaze." We're thinking that, in this case, "floorfixated" is a bit more apt. Good stuff. Artist links: home | facebook | twitter | bandcamp

It's no secret to anyone paying attention to the Austin music scene that Black Books created a steady stir of buzz about themselves when they quietly released their debut EP An Introduction To.. about a year ago. So..now that we've been introduced, when might we hear some new material and most importantly when will have full length from the band? That question has been on the minds of many and the answers are coming... The band recently set loose a brand new track from their upcoming full-length titled "Out The Door" on their Bandcamp [...]

Tweet vaso link Sometimes I surprise myself. When listening to the new song from Austin, Texas' Black Books, I was struck by how familiar the lead singer sounded to Jim James. Looking back at what I'd previously written about the band, I found that I had already used that comparison. I talk - a lot - but it seems like I might know what I am talking about every so often. Since that initial post, the band has [...]

We were first introduced to Austin Texas' Black Books by their debut EP, An Introduction To... , over on their BANDCAMP page. Today we have a new single from their forthcoming self titled LP, scheduled to drop next year. Give it a listen, we think you're gonna like it. Black Books; Out The Door
Black Books take the Cardigan's 1996 smash hit, 'Lovefool' and make it sound cool again.

I'm pretty rubbish at this blogging lark, really. Case in point, this post is about an EP I got way back in July, and only now am I actually getting round to writing about it here. Black Books come from Austin, Texas. How the heck they found me I don't know, but I'm really glad they did. It may have taken me five months to get round to posting about it, but in the time since first hearing it their An Introduction To Black Books EP has ended up on regular rotation round here, and been a [...]

Date 10/13/11 Location The Mohawk Doors 8:30pm Tickets $6 @ Door After their successful show featuring Her Space Holiday and Octopus Project, the Disastronauts foundation has put together another show this Thursday night at Mohawk to benefit the musicians displaced by the Bastrop fires. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 You know what's fun? Kicking the weekend off early, and that's why I'm recommending that you head down to the Mohawk tomorrow night and order yourself one of those large Brooklyn Lager cans (or a Lone Star tallboy, if you prefer), and then sit back and enjoy four great Austin bands: Black Books, Residual Kid, Boy + Kite, and La Snacks. Tomorrow's show began as an EP release show for Residual Kid, but it has taken on a new meaning. Their music instructor and producer [...]
