Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of swag, three seven inches to buy instead of (along with?) a bag: Blank Dogs - "Waiting" Is the Blank Dogs singer plugging his nose the way the guy from Wavves does? Was this song actually written in the early '80s? Did it originally come out on Factory Records? [...]

This past weekend Animal Collective headlined the last two shows in Prospect Park, closing out the 31st year of the Celebrate Brooklyn! summer concert series.
Track: Eric Copeland- "Osni" (6)For more on Eric Copeland's Alien In A Garbage Dump, head over to Paw Tracks.

It's official. Every good show this week is happening on Friday. This is one of the first times where I am really, truly undecided on what to recommend. Luckily, my own band is playing so I won't have to make any tough decisions myself, but I'll try to give you as much information as possible so you can make your own educated choice. The British band, The xx, that everyone seems to be talking about (I don't really like what I've heard of them so far) are playing a free show with the beautiful School of Seven Bells at South [...]
Monday: Hockey + Sigmund Droid @ Mercury Lounge 8pm $8 My choices for this week were really tough to come by. All summer long we have been pretty much inundated by fantastic live shows and for whatever reason this week is pretty weak and fairly expensive. I hope you've been saving your pennies by going to nothing but free shows! Anyway, I'm on the fence about whether or not I like Hockey and Sigmund Droid has been missing in action for quite a while. Apparently they're back now so I guess check this out if you have [...]

For those attending night two of Animal Collective in the Prospect Park Bandshell 1.) you're not seeing Black Dice 2.) not seeing Black Dice support Animal Collective is totally justified because you're seeing Zomby ! Dipping his toes into the families of Hyperdub/Ramp/Mad Decent/Werk/BrainMath among others, Zomby will release his long-anticipated One Foot Ahead Of The Other EP on August 25 and to celebrate he's hitting up New York on August 15 with Animal Collective and Los "BOSS" Angeles on September 5; probably for another killer set at the Roxy. "The scheme for One [...]
Ra Ra Riot - St. Peter's Day Festival Black Dice - Cloud Pleaser Beulah - The Battle Cry of the West Moving from FL to PA this week. Lots of sweating to do! And driving. If you've never had a crisis of identity and really want to, hop in your car and drive for 17 hours in any direction. I assure you that the experience will make you question yourself in crazy, otherwise unimaginable ways. Every time I make the drive [...]

[Be sure to check out the official review, coming soon on www.skyscrapermagazine.com .] Black Dice and Animal Collective have been blowing their effects-pedal loads together for years now, and everything about them matches up (even their acronymns: A and C correspond with B and D in the alphabet). They used to almost sound like one giant band back in the Hollindagain days, and AC's Paw Tracks label is disseminating Black Dice's music to the public. While treading a different path career-wise, especially considering the [...]
Black Dice plays the Earl. $8-$10. 8:30 p.m. Thurs., June 11.

Animal Collective is playing Bonnaroo this year, but they are playing a short set in the middle of the day against other acts I want to see, so I decided to make the trek down to St. Pete, Florida and catch a proper AnCo show. I got to the venue two hours before it opened and there was already a few people camping out. By the time they began letting people in, the lie was running around the block. The opener was Black Dice , and while I was excited to check them out, I was [...]
I don't think that there's any question that the dudes in Black Dice are just trying to mess with us. I mean, their newest album Repo is filled with spastic electro-noise that whirrs, pulses, and screeches in an oddly organic way like it's the soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic dance party. Just imagine an army of those mechanical crickets from Wall-E chirping along to the hum of the expiring grid and malfunctioning electronics. Even though there is little linking the sounds on Repo to anything resembling "dance music," there are [...]

Rolling through town will be Black Dice, but it's no gamble. The densely layered electronic/experimental/funk makes a Black Dice experience an intense experience. Like going headfirst down the waterslide while the chlorine rushes up your nostrils and all that's left to think about is the pounding of the psychedelic plastic and last night's lasagna. Their latest, REPO, just popped this past April and is their fifth proper release. What makes this even cooler is that some dates are with Animal Collective. The intensity or the weirdness will know no bounds. [...]

Too many good shows Friday to name, but we'll hit up the highlights. If you don't see live music in Austin on Friday, I'm not sure we can be friends anymore. Really. ![upcoming in june [week 1]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1763732_lg.jpg)
According to my iPhone calendar, June is going to be a busy month for DFW live-music-fans. Nearly every day of June has a dot in its box, each dot representing at least one show that I deem calendar-worthy, which means that I'm going to need a new job and, by July, a new liver. We will keep you updated throughout the month on the live shows that we give our WTD stamp of approval. To kick us off, the first week of June is fucking monumental. Stare in awe below. 6/1 Mr. Lif @ The Loft [...]
Here's a really quick recap of the weekend (and then some)... Last night, I made it down to the Biltmore to catch Black Dice , Wolf Eyes , and Sade Sade. Wolf Eyes were their usually great selves. I was really into Black Dice, but they sort of edge close to dance music like HEALTH, which I'm all for, I just wish people would move a little more when they're playing (although, I was pretty bagged by the time they came on, so I probably shouldn't talk). It was my first time seeing Gabriel Saloman's (aka [...]
Black Dice, one of my favorite experimental/noise/awesome bands are currently on tour, and are gonna play an awesome show in Los Angeles. They're going to be playing at Gilbert's, with Wolf Eyes. If you're in town, make sure to go, it's going to be insane. If you don't live in L.A. (lame), they're still on tour... So see them somewhere. Video + MP3 for "Glazin". Enjoy! Tour Dates: Wed 05/20/09 Empty Bottle Chicago, IL # Thu 05/21/09 Triple Rock Minneapolis, MN # Sat 05/23/09 Palace Missoula, MT # Sun [...]
