★★★☆☆ The Black Dog mark their territory with an hour long warding off of intruders. For bark and bite, the veteran unit’s ambient techno, IDM and interstellar ordinance still doesn’t have to come at you in a blaze of teeth and slobber. The collection of astro bric-a-brac, as if to verify their whereabouts (and title), is intentionally charged with jolting the LP’s flow, but the unannounced changeability of sound does as good a job by itself anyway. "Atavistic Resurgence" grunts through electro with confrontation on its mind, representative of the sparse shunting together of [...]

A wander back to 1993 and a listen to The Black Dog's phenomenal "Bytes" album shows that while some of its material may have dated slightly, it still holds up steadily today 20 years on. The personnel has of course changed since those days but the quality of the output hasn't faltered. The trio's latest long-player entitled "Tranklements" has arrived and adds to what has already been a busy year with three 123s and several mixes released. From the opening melancholia of "Alien Boys" to the chunky kicks of "Atavistic Resurgence" [...]

One of electronica's most renown predecessors and pioneers of the '90s IDM movement, The Black Dog , have contributed one of FACT Mag's more memorable mixes in recent months. As one of the primary forerunners of Sheffield label Warp Records , the trio managed to squeeze in some label alums, starting off the another IDM mainstay, Autechre . The mix sticks mostly with a transfixed and adored '90s movement, and a couple new digs just for the mix. Listen and/or download the entire 40 minutes below.

Because you need some Black Dog. Because you need to have some darkness in your life. Becuase you want a free download. The picture is of the 1984 Miners Strike at Polmaise Pit in Scotland. The music is similarly fraught. Tracklist 01. Lorca – Giant Stars – Midnight Visions 02. Beneath – Burn 4 U – CDr 03. South London Ordnance – Transmission Funk – Hotflush Recordings 04. ![Black Dogs @ Cafe Dekcuf [April 6, 2013]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4876632_lg.jpg)
Went to Cafe Dekcuf on April 6th. There was three bands playing mostly in the folk-rock and pop genre. So I am going to make them separate. The last of three bands I saw was Black Dogs . They played a nice indie acoustic folk rock set. Very intimate and entertaining. They got Michael Laing of Peas&Carrots and The Love Machine to drum on a song. [...]

While The Black Dog are one of the most respected production teams in the world of electronic music, the trio are never happy to play on past successes and new material is never far away. They've already set the bar high for 2013 with the brilliant "Return Ov Bleep" and "Darkhaus Vol. 013 for Ostgut Ton's sister label Unterton . Their new album "Tranklements" lands on the 20th of May and we managed to catch up with them to hear about [...]
It's grim up North. But by George you need some of their milled dark satanic techno. Free download. This is a live set by techno gods The Black Dog from their appearance at T In The Park on http://soundcloud.com/the-blac k-dog/tinpark

Ah, the Vauxhall Chevette. Stalwart of the police at the tail end of the 70s (this model pre-dates the 1979 Chevette facelift - how nerdy is that!) along with the Morris 1300. Oh, and there's a mix of early bleep and bass track from The Black Dog for you to download. The Black Dog haven't tended to revisit their past. As they say " We've always been in two minds about doing this because as much as we like the past we love the future more ." But with their new Return Ov Bleep release - also below - " [...]

Sheffield, as with many cities across the UK, has a rich electronic music heritage and last year The Black Dog got together with some like minded souls and started up the Electronic Supper Club as a way of bringing the cities artistic talents together. Since its inception they've broadcast a host of events live on the web and showcased some amazing new talent as well as some of their more well known friends. Think of it as a Boiler Room without the hipsters and chat room. The latest release from tBd was [...]

Sometimes, I eat a really delectable croissant - mostly at Planet Organic on Essex Road - and become suddenly aware of how all the other recent croissants I've wolfed down have been merely average, okay, unexceptional, passé. And now, after listening to Black Dog , the new song by Lexy & The Kill , I'm thinking similar thoughts about female vocalists. Because, you see, Lexy's voice, particularly in the song's chorus, is equally delectable: luxurious and rich and superior and soaring. In short, it's the Planet Organic croissant of female vocals: To explain, Lexy [...]

The wonderful Lexy & the Kill return with another new single called “Black Dog”. The emotional journey is about depression and overcoming homesickness about moving to London. As I could directly relate to the situation, the song hits me extra hard. Unfortunately, I was not able to handle being that far away from comfort zone, and I only wish I had the power of these incredible words to help me along. A whole new appreciation for Lexy has just been formed with this gorgeous and bare-boned ballad. This is a must listen to anyone feeling a [...]

The Black Dog and Andy Weatherall make an appearance, as do St Etienne. The latter are the surprise here, appearing in both the Coming Up and Coming Down lists. At #46, The Black Dog. This is a track from Sheffield's finest before they split into The Black Dog and Plaid. The track is Cost II which appeared in 1993 (the track also appears on the album Temple of Transparent Balls ). The track is a bit bleepy, as you'd expect, but is equally dreamy - with lush synth lines. [...]

We don't seem to have had much Black Dog in the last few months, so let's rectify that with this slightly atypical 90 min mix - albeit from a year ago. The mood is every bit as dour as the title and photo. Drone techno psych rock ahoy. Free download. The Black Dog - Industrial Smokers Behind The Factory Wall. Barn Owl - Procession Of Golden Bones/Ancient Days - Root Strata M J Harris & Martyn Bates - Sheaf and Knife [...]
Top 9 songs I listened to on Itunes this year. (Fuck 10? What makes 10 so special?) 9. Billie Holiday - "These Foolish Things" If I could die and be buried in a song, it would be this one. Therefore, perhaps rather morbidly, I guess I listened to it pretty much every day on the bus. 8. Antony and Bryce Dessner - "I Was Young When I Left Home" It’s raining outside. Find a mud [...]

Over the weekend, The Continental Club in Austin hosted a pair of benefit concerts for injured and uninsured Austin musician Michael Fracasso and the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians medical assistance program simply billed as " Patty Griffin and Her Driver." For those that haven't been keeping up on Ms. Griffin's personal life, they were in for quite a treat as when she finally welcomed "her driver" to the stage about a third of the way into her set it turned out to be none other than former Led Zeppelin front man Robert Plant . [...]

Amazing live performance of Led Zeppelin, the greatest rock band in history, performing "Black Dog" in front of a sold out crowd at the O2 arena. On December 10, 2007, Led Zeppelin took the stage at London’s O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. What followed was a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band’s signature blues-infused rock ’n’ roll that instantly became part of the legend of Led Zeppelin. Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their [...]

The weather was looking fine and dandy but a little chilly on September 9th at Ottawa Folk Festival . Here are some of the photos " THAT " I got to take at the festivals: Decided to check out the "free" area at the festival with singer/songwriter workshops. The ones I saw were: Interview with Jill Hennessy Hellos and Goodbyes with Lucy Kaplansky (host), John Smith and Said The [...]
