Esperanza Spalding will soon be dropping her next album RADIO MUSIC SOCIETY. Check out the brand new short film for the single, "Black Gold" featuring Algebra Blesset above... Official words from Ms. Spalding: "This song is singing to our African American heritage before slavery. Over the decades, so much of the strength in the African American community has seeded from resistance and endurance. I wanted to address the part of our heritage spanning back to pre-colonial Africa and the elements of Black pride that draw from our connection to our ancestors in their own [...]
Sam Sparro has a new album coming our soon called Return To Paradise . It's been a while since he hit it big last, but the buzz singles like "Pink Cloud" and "Yous A Nasty" are even better than the previous singles, which is why we are so excited for this project! Education never looked so beautiful. The virtually unknown Esperanza Spalding who made headlines at the Grammys last year by winning the best new artist trophy has released a new music video for the song entitled "Black Gold," that will be featured on her upcoming album "Radio Music Society." The clip is a little movie that [...] Esperanza Spalding "Black Gold" Music Video Feat. Algebra Blessett is a post from: RnB Music Blog

Brand new music has just been released by Black Gold , a project from Aaron of DC band Bellman Barker . I dig the synth pop chill vibe its got going; be sure to give it a spin. Black Gold | Black Hills . <!-- <!-- <!--
Tom Caruana, whose Wu-Tang vs The Beatles mixtape made waves last year, released a Wu-Tang vs Jimi Hendrix mixtape last month and it's full of heaters. I've been meaning to post about the mixtape since it first came out, but every time I turned it on to begin posting, I just ended up listening to [...]

I know a lot of people out there love them some Wu, and a lot of people love them some Hendrix, so I hope this project will make a lot of people out there very very happy. Haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, but can only expect great things after his last Wu+Beatles project. Check it out and let me know what you think. Stream here Click here to download here

Just thinking about this album today as they are announcing the long list for the Polaris Prize today ( keep an eye out here ). If you are unaware, the 2011 Polaris Prize is the 'best' Canadian album to be released between June 2010 and May 2011 as chosen by music editors, sites, critics in Canada. Slowcoustic is considered one of those Canadian music types and I voted for my favourite albums and this band may have been among the list....I ain't gonna tell. One Hundred Dollars new album "Songs of Man" is a strong contender for reaching [...]

Over the weekend, Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun posted another track from their upcoming debut full-length (out this Saturday, May 7) to their Soundcloud page. An emphatic rock-infused scorcher driven by lacerating razor wire guitars and frantic drums, "Oh Black Gold" follows squarely in the footsteps of "We Were Wild," the first single to be released from Wildfire . I hear a lot of Metric in this track, especially in the way Lauren Gibson's vocals maintain an uneasy balance between sultry cool and snarling aggression. She doesn't quite have Emily Haines' [...]

Today The Moon, Tomorrow The Sun occupy an interesting musical overlap. On the surface, their sound is sort of bubble gum pop, but at the same time they are a rather impressive experimental band. It's hard for to me think of another group that can simultaneously pull off both of these aesthetics so successfully. Through three EPs which all featured moments of brilliance but were a bit inconsistent, TTMTTS 's paradoxical duality was best demonstrated by their fun and intense live show. But with Wildfire , their epic new full-length, they have finally found a way to [...]

So I am late to the party on this one. I love it but I just keep not being able to figure out what to say about it. I have it for a while now and it has been shown quite a bit of love in our little blog scene. Today it came up on my random playlist again and I decided that I was just going to tell you all about it and not worry about writing something in my head first. First and foremost what sucks most about this album is that the band is now defunct and [...]

Not only is this song one of the catchiest protest songs of any decade, it may be the only thing from the 1990s that has actually become more relevant since its original heyday. Even such beloved and enduring pieces of popular culture as Seinfeld , rollerblades, and third-wave feminism seem dated - if not charmingly quaint - when viewed though a lens clouded by the econo-politically fractured moral relativity that typifies our hyper-connected, post-9/11 world. The fact that this particular tune has not been afforded a resurgence on adult contemporary radio shows just [...]

It's all about the riddim. It's about the message. It's about the rebellion. It's about the groove, and the spirit, and at its best, it's about the euphoria. That pretty much sums up my love affair with Reggae. Always casually aware of the Jamaican sounds, it wasn't until after college that my mind and soul delved headlong into the reggae groove. Bob Marley had been a constant in my consciousness, but it was really Black Uhuru that ushered me in through the Rastafarian doors. Different than Marley, way different, [...]

That is because the snare drum in question dates back to the '40s, a reflection of his and Black Gold keyboardist/singer Eric Ronick's affinity for vintage gear.
