The pleasure of listening to full albuns. Two Strangers is the new release by Black Lab, finally. After two years of blood, sweat and blisters on their fingers, black lab's fourth album is ready for launch. Stripping away some of the gloss from previous efforts, two strangers is, in some places, more basic and straightforward than anything the band has done in years, breaking it all down to songs, guitars & drums. In other places, it is more lush — with a full orchestra, choir, piano and organ [...]

oof. peaced is not a cure for the synapsefucker of a headache i have today (like the kind got jeff tweedy hooked on painkillers, like the kind got max cohen drilling brains out in pi). sounds like the result of a three a.m. jagermeister binge, armed to the green teeth with a young lady of questionable sexual hygiene, a rusted geetar, damaged tape recorder and some goofy/bad vibes. y'know when yr lips go numb and yr tongue swells and you can't quite tell why [...]

Located deep in the heart of the Apple campus is the $100 million Infinite Loop Lab . Engadget scored a look inside the former "black lab" and revealed what seems like a pretty-damn thorough testing facility. KID A-pple Although the chilly, dark 'n glitchy goodness of Kid A 's " Everything in Its Right Place " makes an ironic-enough soundtrack, this Radiohead rarity is even more fitting … NOBODY TESTS IT BETTER Radiohead "Nobody Does It Better" [...]

Yes, yes - I know that I've blogged entirely too much about Black Lab lately. Thing is, that probably isn't going to stop any time soon. These guys consistently put out some of the best music no one listens to, so someone needs to be singing their praises. I figure it may as well be me. Besides, who doesn't like free stuff? Speaking of free stuff, the point of this post was to let you all know that Black Lab has announced they'll be giving away a free MP3 every moth rather than [...]

Black Lab is that classic tragedy of the music industry: Band makes brilliant album. Label doesn't push said album. Band goes to record second album. Label gets bought by bigger label. Bigger label drops band and prohibits the release of already recorded material. Band breaks up. I have a special place in my heart with bands who went through all this nonsense, but Black Lab reigns supreme even amongst all the Dishwallas and Semisonics. Their quashed dream seemed a bit more harrowing than their [...]
...and no, we're not talking about the chirpety-chirp of birdies here. We all have our summer playlists that we whip out once the sun starts melting the ice in hopes that our cheerful, upbeat tunes will expediate the process. Unfortunately for us, Mother Nature doesn't always take it kindly when we're telling her what's-what and when to do it, but that's life, right? Here's a couple of songs from each of us that we rock to whilst kickin' it in the flip flops. And no, no Sublime allowed - I'm sure your local alternative rock [...]

Back on my old blog I ran a weekly feature called the Six Pack of the Week. I've decided to bring that feature over to this blog - congrats to you! I think it's a fantastic way to make everyone aware of some great tracks that are out there. This week I'm focusing on covers. I've always loved a good cover, I've included a few I've been listening to lately. Enjoy! [mp3] Foo Fighters - Band on the Run (Paul McCartney & Wings) [...]

Lacking time or ability to really focus on mixtapiness this week, I've asked a good friend, fellow music aficionado and blogger to take the reins this week. She's come through in stunning fashion. Thanks to Mel from New Leaves In March for keeping the Friday Mixtape tradition here going. At the end of each year, I put together a mix cd that acts as a sort of musical yearbook for me. I try to capture new artists I discovered as well as the songs that really stood out on the ipod during the [...]

Black Lab is a great power rock band that I've been into lately. Their music has been used constantly in films like Spider-Man and Blade: Trinity and TV shows on MTV and the WB. Black Lab entrances you with their intense numbers, brilliant lyrics and excellent melodies. Take a listen. Wash It Away from Your Body Above Me ( buy ) Remember from See The Sun ( buy )
