Over 8 mins of blazing synths and bubbling arps that can only evoke those ' relevee ' feelings..well anythign that dark and monstrous always bring mr Russom to mind. The award for most lovingly presented twelve inch of the week has to go to Berlin residing Italian duo Discodromo on the newly minted Discaire imprint. Arriving in an oversize twelve inch envelope which houses a one sided twelve inch replete with lovely label artwork and accompanied by a somewhat risque press release and a big slab of cardboard, fans of vinyl will be impressed before they've even heard [...]

I first became aware of Gavin Russom last summer at PS1 where he performed as The Crystal Ark . The music, which combined Brazilian trance with Belgian techno, had the capacity crowd dancing en masse. Stream "The City Never Sleeps" below. I dug up some tracks when I got home and it eventually led me to Black Meteoric Star , his solo minimalist project from 2006. The songs instantly reminded me of my recent trip through the dance clubs [...]

The synth-wizard, the wizard-look-a-like or just wizard in general, Gavin Russom (Delia Gonzalez & ..., Black Leotard Front, Black Metoric Star, The Crystal Ark, et. al) is venturing to Melbourne once again (recently visiting July 2010 at the Toff and also played live on-stage with LCD Soundsystem when they toured later that year) with details of this current visit at the bottom of this post. If you aren't familiar with the man, who has released work predominantly on the DFA label but has remixes released on Music Man (famous long-running Belgium label), Permanent Vacation, Record Makers, et al, then feel [...]

Gavin Russom is a psychedelic electronic music producer known for is brilliant releases on DFA Records and for making his own synthesizers. The first time i heard is music was on one of the first DFA compilations, its was totally different from what i was used to hear and i became captivated with the sound by Gavin and Delia Gonzalez , it was like a mind trip full of psychedelic elements, you don't know exactly how to react to it, if lay back and enjoy the [...]
Black Leotard Front - Casual Friday Selections from the Party Book Hosting a party can be an enjoyable experience, if one plans ahead. All of us, at one point or another, have felt the pickled grief of social embarrassment settle into our stomachs like a slimy olive rolled into a cold martini. This grief-olive--which slowly but surely will gestate the pimento of regret--can be avoided with careful planning, but also by maintaining a tight psychological grip on one's guests. A party can be likened to an overactive and truculent child, which you [...]

When it comes to the deep house discourse community, Black Meteoric Star is a hot topic (haha). There are no banger's when it comes to BMS , just deep electro intelligence. Just check out these testimonials: HadesBrain wrote : Deep, druggy shit the way I like it. casioboy wrote : Too good to be true! Servbot wrote : [...]

DFA did us all a favour and committed 'Death Tunnel' to vinyl. This track have been recorded onto analog tape hence the hiss, but that only adds to the mystique and atmosphere of the vibe, which attempts to channel the live and intuitive spirits of Ron Hardy or Adonis' box jamming Chicago sessions with the fiercely linear constructions of Unit Moebius' freak-gang acid house. Gavin Russom largely made his own specialised circuit setup for the recordings, and with a little help from the 707 drumbox he's made an authentically raw tribute to the original box bangers. Big tip! [...]

Gavin Russom (you may remember from 'Delia and Gavin') project Black Meteoric Star are just about to start filtering through into record shops near you and judging from this first leak it's going to be one of this year's essential releases. Black Meteoric Star- Death Tunnel

Gavin Russom , DFA Records , Black Meteoric Star - album out now (which is ace). Fact interview MP3: Black Meteoric Star: Death Tunnel
Having pwned his genetic code, Kid Nebula lies in a bed stinking of sweat and orchids while black birds hatch from every single pore in his skin, a million of them fly out of the windows of his fucked up flat like bats erupting from a church upon threat of ...

Black Meteoric Star's eponymous debut album comes highly anticipated, not just for me personally, but for most of the electronic music loving world. The brainchild of DFA cohort Gavin Russom , Black Meteoric Star is not just a musical alias, but an identity and a concept, through which Russom explores and responds to the last thirty years of dance music in a way which goes beyond simple pastiches, into a realm of artistic expression and sensation of sonic frequency which has more in common with drone bands like Sunn o))) than the house and disco music which DFA is [...]

Gavin Russom finally unleashes his Black Meteoric Star project this week: "Black Meteoric Star is a channel for my interest in dance music and dance culture. It's also a way to experiment with pitch and rhythm relationships using a limited set of tools. The tracks are done in single live takes." The LP is available in all formats from Boomkat along with an accompanying 12". Grab 'em whilst there hot. Do DFA ever put out a duff record? Black Meteoric Star- Death Tunne l (Download) [...]

Black Meteoric Star and avaf at PopRally at Moma David Mancuso's Loft

The last time I went to a concert at the Museum of Modern Art, it was a packed house which resulted in chaotic crowd surfing. Yeah, I never expected that to happen in a museum, but I have a feeling similar antics could repeat themselves on May 23 when DFA's Black Meteoric Star plays the space. It's part of the museum's PopRally series of events. That's not all. Black Meteoric Star will be releasing several singles before compiling them together on an album set for release on June 9. The kicker is that the [...]

I've been very excited about this event for awhile and have had to keep quiet about it! MoMa's PopRally crew is putting together a very special night with Gavin Russom's new Black Meteoric Star acid house project (out soon on DFA ) with visuals, dancers, and other visual oddities from asume vivid astro focus . Tickets are on sale now and will sell out immediately. Don't sleep on this. If you haven't heard BMS yet, check out Justin Miller and [...]

First tune here, Dreamcatcher, out on DFA in the fall of 2009, is HUGE MUSCLE. totally in love with it at the moment, just builds and builds but perfectly held back at the same time. 17. Photo from myspace.com/thejuanmaclean Friday night I headed into New York to see The Juan Maclean play a live show. Beforehand was a happy hour I was running, the highlight of which was Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey , which is the best American whiskey I've ever had, something that's hard for me to say given my love of Maker's Mark. Another excellent discovery was Vermont Gold Vodka , which is distilled from maple sap, and retains a bit of its maple sweetness and flavor, going down very smooth. So, I was in [...]

See above Petar Dundov, "Oasis" (Gavin Russom remix) Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom, "#5" The picture, to answer your first question, was basically my reaction to Gavin Russom's abrupt uncloistering last winter; dude had basically spent the last three years keeping a lower online profile than me . I presume few if any of you give a shit; Days of Mars has been out for almost half a decade [...]
