Black Milk - Piano Moog Black Milk - Drunk Tweets Detroit hip hopper slash producer Black Milk shows off his sci-fi-styled skill side on the aptly titled Synth Or Soul collection of beat oddities, but I guess it's really not a question of either/or as the name suggests, 'cause he does a pretty good job of melding synth hooks with soul grooves and weaving a serious set of quirky instrumental beats out of [...]

One of Record Store Day's must-have gems comes from Detroit rapper/producer Black Milk and his 12-track LP Synth Or Soul . The album's direction follows the mantra of the name, with the first half of songs filling the neo-electro bent favored by those like Flying Lotus , with the latter half comprised of toned-down soul samples. Before the release, fans can get a listen to the entire LP. Check it out below.
Yes, the internet has dictated that musicians make music as hurriedly as humanly possible, but the great ones have learned to move to the beat of their own drum loop. Take master producer, Black Milk . Though he has been generally off the map for some time now, he's as relevant and calculated as before because he's done things at his own pace. With Synth Or Soul , an instrumental album, he proves that slow-and-steady is the right speed to navigate on. Though it's devoid of raps or rhymes, Synth Or Soul plays out like a concept album. [...]

Detroit emcee/producer Black Milk's instrumental EP goes by Synth or Soul . Whether a question about musical preference, a statement about Milk's influences or a tasty little combination of the two, the listener benefits since this is pure, unadulterated ear candy. You know that one part of the beat of your favorite song (the bass chords in OutKast's "Playa's Ball," the warped flute in Big K.R.I.T.'s "Me And My Old School") that you look forward to every time you hit play? Milk has found a way to capture that sound from some of [...]

Creativity comes in all shapes and forms, and with music I tend to enjoy when people are trying something new or are working on cool things. like Black Milk , who released his latest album called Synth or Soul , the first project in his Fuzz, Freqs & Colors (FFC) series collaboration with Upendo “Pen” Taylor . This project series is combining art and music into one -- two things I think always go together so well. This first part is 12 tracks of solid production from Black Milk , which you should enjoy. This year's Record Store Day (April 20) is full of great releases, but one in particular has us excited. Detroit's Black Milk will be releasing Synth or Soul , a vinyl-only EP for RSD, and here's a little sample of what to expect. "Computer Ugly Ugly," which appears on side A, and "Why Worry" from the B-side reflect Black Milk's musical reach, sounding remarkably different from one another. Check out the two cuts below. Synth or Soul EP tracklist : Side A 1. [...]

Black Milk is back, in full effect, and you bet your ass I'm happy about it. He is preparing to release an instrumental album entitled Synth Or Soul, focusing on the production techniques of synthesizers and soul record flips. Well the title speaks for itself, and his first sampling brings them together on "Computer Ugly Ugly/Why Worry". The second record is a single he released for purchase on iTunes telling the story of two men engulfed in the Detroit streets. "Sunday's Best/Monday's Worst" has Milk in rapping form, improving with each step since his 2010 release Album Of The Year. [...]
More new Black Milk with the release of "Computer Ugly Ugly" and "Why Worry?" The tracks come from Milk's next project Synth Or Soul, an instrumental EP with one side [...]
Gearing up for the April 20th release of his instumental album Synth or Soul , emcee Black Milk drops another two part mash-up track titled "Computer Ugly Ugly/ Why Worry". Mixing synth sounds, raw beats, and vocal samples, the first part of this track is a trippy listen. Halfway through, he flips the song entirely into a soulful, throwback-esque instrumental part. The crossing of two genres and eras of music is a nice sample of the collaborations of Black Milk and Upendo "Pen" Taylor. Although the track is a solid instrumental, it would have been better to [...]
Just a couple of weeks after getting a couple of new singles from Black Milk we've just got word of two more hitting the web from a different project. These two tracks are off an

Black Milk has always been one to make hip hop burners as a producer, and now comes word that he will step away from the microphone for a forthcoming LP with visual artist Upendo Taylor . Titled Synth or Soul , the new LP will be available on vinyl in time for Record Store Day (4/20) and just like the name suggests, half of its output devoted to synths and the other half to soul samples. Check out a track below and order yours should the mood strike you. [...]

After promising a new instrumental album some time ago, Detroit producer Black Milk is following his word with his Synth or Soul LP set for Record Store Day . The April 20 release will feature this duel track "Computer Ugly Ugly/Why Worry." The first half splits the " Synth " portion, with hard-line electro-fused beats and dingy bass work. The latter flows through the " Soul " portion, which you can imagine will be the formula for the remainder of the album. Stream below and pre-order here .

Black Milk hinted at a new instrumental album a few months back, and this Record Store Day he is set to deliver. Titled Synth or Soul , it appears the album will cover styles infused with both synthesizers and soul samples. Our latest taste is "Computer Ugly Ugly / Why Worry", which is heavy on the synths in the first part, and then incredibly soulful on the final half. Personally, I prefer the latter end of this record, but the concept together makes this an extra special release. Synth or Soul drops April [...]
