Get Happy With Black Prairie Come October, the good souls of Black Prairie —basically the Decemberists in different pantaloons and without Colin Meloy—shall return. It's been awhile (nine months) since we heard a peep from these rootsy wonders, but now that their other band has relocated to Hiatusville, USA, Black Prairie will kickoff a month long happy hour residency at the LaurelThirst Public House. The band, which is comprised of 3/5 of the Decemberists, as well as two other folk musicians from Portland, OR, works with an amazing combination of musical styles (string band, folk, bluegrass, etc.) to produce something that just gushes out atmosphere. Black Prairie: Feast of the Hunters' Moon Three Decemberists (plus two) add folk, gypsy and classical flavors This release debuts the collaboration of three Decemberists (instrumentalist Chris Funk, bassist Nat Query and accordionist Jenny Conlee) and two players from the Portland scene (violinist/vocliast Annalisa Tornfelt and guitarist Jon Neufeld).
