Black Pus, which is the side-project pseudonym for Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale, drops a new track along with a huge recpord on his current tour with Buck Gooter and Mounds . This track is hard as hell, I gotta tell ya. Not only does it go on for twelve minutes, but the bass rumbles on this thing are just about to split my skull in two. As usual, Chippendale's intricate drumming is dizzying and intense, keeping the groove of this track non-stop until a huge climax toward the end consisting of thick distorted bass riffs and [...]

Broken to Piano for President is a story of "a noise band caught up in a conspiracy involving fast food moguls and international space programs," by Patrick Wensink . Well, Deathbomb Arc is releasing Broken to Piano for President as a cassette audiobook with True Neutral performing the accompanying score. True Neutral is Brain Miller's new musical project. You may know Miller from his work in drum 'n' shout hardcore band foot village , or perhaps from his ambient project Back to [...]

Have I mentioned that we live in Providence now? So I went to see Black Pus for free at the RISD Art Museum on Thursday. I didn't bring a camera, but it looked kind of like this: …his setup. It wasn't actually in the museum, but tucked away in this pleasant little covered terrace, kind of under and behind the museum. There was almost no one there when Brian started—promptly at eight—after which, guided assumedly by the megaton-decibel-blast funneling out into the streets, the [...]

(Load Records, 2011) It's going to be hard when two gorillas, two larger-than-normal gorillas—enormous, bulky, gigantic gorillas—are smashing your head in from either side, ears turned inside out, processing the muted inner sloshings and crumblings of the beating, to distinguish between that sound and Primordial Pus . Why I like it. There's almost no fault in Primordial Pus . There is no fault in Primordial Pus . I'm in the twilight of my heavy music listening days, I just [...]

MP3: Black Pus - I'll Come When I Can Brian Chippendale sure is a busy man. Between Lightning Bolt currently being on tour, his recent opus If-N-Oof and the now on hiatus Puke Force series (most likely due to the touring) he sure has been keeping fans busy. What's more—he's saving the gems on his recent Black Pus records for the last track (see "Body On The Tide" from All Aboard The Magic Pus). The track we have here for you is just [...]

MP3: Black Pus - Bark of the Tree I had a nice time downloading and listening to the Black Pus discography yesterday afternoon. Here is the b-side to a 7 inch.

Black Pus : whirlwind chaos, heavier and more metal than on record, surprisingly chill crowd, "Fuck the beat police!" Sissy Spacek : dude had guitar with springs for strings, Wiese looks like a creepy pedophile (via The Lovely Bones), indescribable noise that somehow didn't (but should have) shattered my lens Nautical Almanac : crazy ass rear projections on a giant's sheet distracted from the already distracted radio-scanning incomprehensible clatter Wittmer & Knowles : performance noise, Germanic human robots played tuning forks with their feet, the mouth [...]

Perhaps one reason we haven't heard a whole lot from the monolithic Lightning Bolt since 2005's flawless Wonderful Rainbow is the myriad of undoubtedly time-consuming side projects. Black Pus is one of them, featuring Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale. While Chippendale maintains the holy spastic drumming, interdental vox, and ADHD garage prog vibe that christens the church of Lightning Bolt, he seems to utilize Black Pus as a vehicle to branch out into other songwriting styles, including movements that are almost, zounds!, poppy. Have a look and listen to "Land of the Lost," a highly hummable tune [...]

Black Pus 0: Ultimate Beat Off (2009, Diareaharama) RIYL = Mindflayer, Lightning Bolt, Octis Last year, Brian Chippendale, drummer extraordinaire(!), released his fourth solo album as the disgustingly monikered Black Pus (for the record, Sassigrass won't listen to Black Pus because the name grosses her out – which is wonderful). In line with his previous releases, the title of the album was prefaced with a 4. 4: All Aboard the Magic Pus . The album was as chaotic and noise barbed as anything Chippendale has done as Black Pus or [...]
Black Pus - Down Down Da Drain Black Pus always seem to condense their fuzz through some super weird paper mache microphone and here it sounds like it's done so inside a tornado, going for a kind of skewed breakbeat punk route and freaking more wild eyed than ever, pretty mental considering all this sludge is laid down live; no overdubs (whaat). This is pretty rulin; love each weird new direction they push this stuff! [ Black Pus MySpace ] [Buy Down Down Da Drain [...]
Typically, I'm not very interested in or even impressed by the majority of the acts that perform at the New York's annual No Fun Fest, now a three-day event showcasing multiple noisemakers from around the world. On the occasions that I've actually attended, it has only been for a single night and typically to [...]

So, one song my ipod keeps choosing to play of late is by Canadian lofindierockers Women . It is one of the harder tracks on their newish eponymous album. It is all beats and recorder grot. Oh, and that buried guitar line will probably get stuck in your head (in a good way), but only if you listen for it. Downloadable: "Lawncare" (box.net mp3) Jagjaguwar is here . Flemish Eye is here . eMusic page is here . ptw (RIP) 'single file' is here . [...]

MP3: Lightning Bolt - Dracula Mountain MP3: No Age - Here Should Be My Home I have been subconsciously praying for a way to link Lightning Bolt , Deerhoof and No Age together other than being fucking amazing, but last night I was finally given a way: Noise For Obama . A new website launched by noise artists in support of future United States President Barack Obama, it gives personal statements from [...]
Black Pus Black Pus 4: All Aboard the Magic Pus (2008, Diarreah) Verdict = Unbridled Lightning Bolt/Mindflayer pop (as if Lightning Bolt had a bridle to begin with or Mindflayer could ever be pop or that it could ever be both at the same time) The opening track for Lightning Bolt/Mindflayer drummer, Brian Chippendale's 4th solo album, Black Pus 4: All Aboard the Magic Pus sounds like Chippendale threw the his latest records with both Lightning Bolt and Mindflayer into a blender and recorded the carnage. It is a beautiful opening to [...]

Black Pus - "Land of the Lost" When I used to be an actor on Degrassi Junior High (I never was) the on-set tutor taught me a lesson I'll never forget. Was it that blood is thicker than water? Yes. Was it the tawdry style of a black pleather mini-skirt and cream filk blouse? That too. But it was also, and only, that boring art is for geezers and wimps. I'm currently in training to start a graveyard shift, so I'm staying up as late as possible, and Black Pus [...]
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): Lymbyc Systym - Astrology Days (mp3) ( [...]
