I... just... can't... stop... dancing. Sometimes, you just find the perfect song for a given moment; That's how I felt when I threw on some Fancy Mike and opened up my window to a fat ray of sunshine and a chorus of chirping birds. As Twin Peaks set the mood and the sun beamed down through my already milky hookah, I couldn't help but start bouncing on my bed. You know what they say: if you can't dance on your feet, dance in your seat! Fancy Mike is a young producer hailing from middle America. Not [...]

Download: Black Tie—"Wide Open" Download: Black Tie—"The Haunting of Francisco De Goya" A veteran of the Albuquerque scene, Roger Apodaca's project Black Tie is an orchestrated, moody affair that brings to mind influences as disparate as Mogwai, the Constellation Records crew, Galaxie 500, and Mojave 3. This is patient, passionate music; it's Americana without being country. We use the term Americana a lot to mean twangy, Ryan Adams-y sounding stuff, but this record is has an Americana to without much of that. It's from a [...]

I always check out music sent to me in my inbox and I feel I ran into this by Black Tie very randomly. Black Tie isn't a bad name for a band but attempting to find this band with the number of wedding bands searches that popped made it very difficult to try to even find his myspace. Black Tie is a solo project of Roger Apodaca out of New Mexico. It described as either Americana, Experimental or Ambient. It's definitely something different. It's arguably tough to find admirers of lyric-less music especially when it's [...]

After GoMotorCar disbanded in 2004, bassist Roger Apodaca decided to record some songs as a side project. Throughout much of 2004 he recorded his music on his home computer, inviting musicians to lend an ear and take a bit of direction while adding their respective personalities to the individual tracks they would lay down. What started out as a few songs soon grew into an entire album. The project was dubbed Black Tie , and the first album was titled "At Dawn" . The 10 song debut disc featured Apodaca performing much of the instrumentation but also included [...]

Sorry for the absence of the podcast this weekend, but I was beat and couldn't get myself to get it done when I got off work on Saturday. In fact, I spent the majority of the weekend doing nothing but eating, napping and watching movies and the NFL. It was awesome and refreshing. I'm ready to get back to the grind today though, and I'm going to do so by posting up the artists that were meant to be in the podcast. Enjoy. Nicky Click, the Trolleyvox, Sambassadeur, Black Tie, the [...]

gang: inbox artists will be a new & hopefully recurring feature on anyone's guess, whereby we highlight and share with you all a few of the better songs that find their way into the email box . how regularly this segment appears will, of course, depend largely on the quantity of quality music received. let's start with an aim of once a month but keep our eye on once a week. sound okay? in the meantime, if you can give half a minute to these artists, most of whom will likely be unfamiliar, perhaps you'll find a [...]

New Mexico-based one-man band, Black Tie , is set to release its second LP, Goodbye, Farewell , on Dec. 4, 2007. A veteran of the Albuquerque scene, Roger Apodaca's project is an orchestrated, moody affair that brings to mind influences as disparate as Mogwai, the Constellation Records crew, Galaxie 500, and Mojave 3. In working on Black Tie's latest release, Goodbye, Farewell, Apodaca enlisted the help of producer Ryan Martino. The result is an 11-song disc that continues the adventurous path and beautiful atmosphere of At Dawn with the help even more ambient guitars, as well [...]
