Difficult to exaggerate the ultra- dense, everything but the kitchen sink intensity of Black To Comm 's new-ish Coldplay, Elvis & John Cage , or its sheer excellence: 20 thrilling minutes of riffing, chugging, squawking, squealing, bleeping, keening fun (though its imaginary supergroup lineage is a bit lost on these ears...). [...]

Here's your morning wake up call. Ugly, ugly people gonna drop the bomb! Play loud and watch the cattle die.
I just want to thank my BFF Mr. Comm for making this video for me. It's truly one of the greatest birthday gifts I've ever received. I mean, I told him exactly what would make the greatest video ever so it's not like he can say it was his idea or anything. But still. It is the greatest video ever. Also, he's playing Boston on Friday the 5th at the Goethe-Institut with Xela & Matt Christensen (of Zelienople) opening, and the always entertaining DJ Ning Nong.

Yes, at the Vortex. The Vortex Jazz Club. I was wondering if the Wire's series of gigs at the Vortex late last year could signify more regular diversions into other forms of experimental music; it seems that Johnny Mugwump has been handed that particular baton. This was the second of a series of Exotic Pylon nights, an extension of Mugwump's Resonance FM show, and as well as the live acts mentioned in the headline above, there was a performance from a specially assembled Exotic Pylon orchestra (featuring the likes of Position Normal and Konntinent), and a DJ [...]

Black to Comm Alphabet 1968 (2009, Type) RIYL = Eluvium, Sean McCann, Mark Templeton We live in an age where the construction of sustained, droning tones is no longer a difficulty. The market is flooded with pedals and laptop software and, well, I'm not really immersed in making drone music so I don't have all the specifics, but suffice it to say, everyone and there mother seems to be making an experimental drone album (and half of them send them to the Forest Gospel inbox). Realizing this, I made the grave miscalculation [...]
Just a few tunes to whet your appetite before the big State Of The Blog Address, which will go live at 23:59 PST this evening. Enjoy these songs, I'll be back in a few hours to give my speech. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at a wall [...]

Last night Nic and I consumed what will inevitably go down as a top ten Los Angeles burger. The "Dry Age Burger" at Oaks Gourmet Market on the border of Hollywood and Los Feliz is quite good. Theirs is (obviously) dry-aged, topped with Taleggio cheese, smoked bacon and a sweet-tasting jalapeno-pineapple compote. I don't know if it will crack the top five, but it will be close. I still have at least three more hamburgers to taste that have won "Best of LA" honors on other blogs. Then I have to begin the process of re-eating most of the finalists [...]

In an exclusive interview, John Twells discloses that 2010 will see Fennesz follow Svarte Greiner's lead in reworking On for Type - LMYE's label of the year after its astounding sequence of releases. It should also bring a new album from Sylvain Chauveau alone & the final release from Yellow Swans. Twells explains Type as [...]
It has taken longer than ever this year to get the votes in from the vast team of writers who it takes to "maintain" this "site" in this "condition". Some would say that this is no doubt due to the jaw-dropping quality of 2009's releases necessitating spectacular quantities of chin-stroking and hair-tearing. Others would [...]

With their TU M'P3 project Soundtrack for Images subtle ambient-dronesters TU M' ( featured here recently ) assembled a strikingly rich archive of kindred-ish spirits & LMYE favourites f rom Mitchell Akiyama to [...]
Amazing: Black To Comm: Hotel Freund [wicked-cool song] visit Black To Comm's MySpace here

Not as extreme as his very intense Collaboration with Datashock on Ikuisuus last year nor as wilful & sprawling as his F*ck Krautrock mix for Type , Black to Comm 's Alphabet 1968 [...]

Ulrich Schnauss has already become our generations Dream Pop captain, with his beautiful cover of Slowdive for Morr Music to this gem from his A Strangely Isolated Place LP, I hope we get something special in 2010 from him. Black To Comm is what I thought Manitoba and Mum set out to become in my head as these musicians that would make PBS nostalgia soundtracks but it all worked out in the end. Is it true that Arovane doesn't make [...]
Another great year for the Type label draws to a close with what may well be one of their best. I'm certainly convinced that it is the finest release that Marc Richter has produced, shoehorning as it does the more abstract drones which have characterised previous Black To Comm albums into a more obviously structured [...]

It's a good year to be climbing down the precipice of haunted electronics. Between Leyland Kirby's massive masterpiece and Marc Richter's latest offering under the Black To Comm moniker all is well in the darkened and foreboding spaces of the world... or at least as well as they can be considering the spectral circumstances. Alphabet 1968 throbs with creeping intensity and a grainy veneer of displaced nostalgia that feels more like scrambling to hold on to what's left than looking back fondly at memories. Paranoia creeps into the edges of Richter's recordings, takes hold of the lovely melodies [...]
Marc Richter may be best known as head honcho of Hamburg-based Dekorder Records, but since 2007 he's run a parallel campaign as the dark ambient project Black to Comm . Closer in spirit to experimental figures of yesterday like Moondog and Bernard Herrmann than current artists, Richter seems dead set on completely disorienting our frame of reference. His new full-length for Type Records, Alphabet 1968 , is a collection of oddities featuring: 'kitchen gamelan', smudged and disguised samples of vinyl, radio, and live recordings. Fairly static in composition, these ten tracks of [...]
