Talib Kweli and Mos Def don't perform together regularly anymore, as annoying as it is. Kweli joined Mos Def on stage in February ( video ), but that was out of the ordinary. Now, we have awesome news. Black Star will reunite for two shows on May 30th at the Nokia Theater. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (3/27) at noon. Buy tickets for the 7pm show here and for the 11:30pm show here . Get 'em quick, they're popular folks in the big apple. Talib's solo dates: [...]

I know typically we're an electro blog but I've been in a writing slump lately - I haven't written anything in like a month! Luckily Nick is unemployed or a millionaire or something (he won't tell me) so he keeps writing while I'm slaving away at the steel mill 16 hours a day. I can only assume he's the heir to the guy who invented the hoola hoop or something like that. I wanted to let everyone know I'm going to some festivals this year. Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2009 (April 17, [...]
Ah yes, my friends, the day is here where we officially christen our Sound Immersion various artists compilation as a monthly feature here on the site. My fellow posters and myself are starting to anticipate these releases greatly, mainly because it's an easy way to talk about the music we're listening to without necessarily shoving [...]

pt. 1 The days were beginning to get longer and the icy frost of a Southern California winter slowly marched to a close. Wordsworthe and a couple of his friends had been playing music for a while now, tinkering with an assortment of gadgets to create a sound that called home somewhere between annoying chaos and gentle clarity, oozing with scratches and clicks that sounded like some far off cosmonaut was trying to communicate via Morse Code but the signal got dissected by the suns radiation and found its home in the PA of a local [...]

I've been looking forward to Mos Def's new album "The Ecstatic" for a loooooooong time. It was slated for a Feb. 24th release and now there are conflicting reports saying it might have been pushed back to a June release. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I need some new Mos in my life. He's released 2 songs off it and I'm really hoping that the rest of the album lives up to these tracks. Quiet Dog Life in Marvelous Times

It was the year Napster broke into the music industry and changed it forever. Why? Because the record labels were forcing crap like Britney, Nsync, and Backstreet Boys upon the masses. Music fans wanted more...they wanted better...and they fought to find it. Here are the 11 Best Albums of 1999: 1. Beck - Midnight Vultures2. Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrun3. This group seems concerned with not the just the state of the nation, but that of music and hip-hop in particular. Though the focus isn't only on that culture, the self assured stance and performance of the group sets them apart from their contemporaries as well as Sabzi 's other group, Blue Scholars (at least on earlier releases). While there is a difference between Common Market and others right now, they aren't actually advancing the music. Instead Common Market is contented with further defining a movement that began almost thirty years ago. [...]

MP3: Black Star - Definition MP3: Black Star - RE: DEFinition It may seem like cheating, but any fan of Black Star will tell you that these 2 songs are pretty much one. Mos Def and Talib Kweli created what is hands down my personal favourite hip hop album ever. Really, any song from it could be posted here, but I went with this one-two punch as it always brings me chills. What really gets me is when "Definition" turns into "RE: DEFinition", the [...]

The Cool Volume II: All The Rage (zip file, album artwork included) Single tracks available below... I'm feeling pretty chilled out at the moment. I'm on holiday, spending some time with the 'rents- I have things to do, but overall life is just ticking along. However, when I started this post a good month or two ago, I was in a fit of rage (disclaimer for friends and family- not brought on by people, just a circumstance). You know that feeling- you want to put your fist through a wall or something [...]

As much as I love music, film has always been a passion of mine (check back to the beginning of The Cold Cut for proof), and I couldn't go without listing a couple of the best films this year. I also forgot in my previous post to list a couple of older albums that I really got into this year. Most Spun Old Albums 1.
