New sounds from the Cutters record label (and apparently with plenty more in store...), this time with Knightlife introducing his third single/release "Serves You Right". Containing two originals of a fresh disco/house vibe that will guarantee to destroy a dancefloor + an Emperor Machine remix of the title track to boot. This single is available now to purchase on vinyl from Juno / Phonica . Oh, and here's a special treat for a download - courtesy of the Cutter's boss: MP3: Knightlife [...]
I'm a sucker for a good horror movie (an even bigger sucker for a horrible horror movie), a few friends, and doing scary things like wander up to a cemetery at midnight ( esp. Stepp Cemetary) or exploring an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Indy even has an abandoned asylum and an abandoned [...]
Here's a fresh track from the vaults of LA groove king. DâM-FunK 'Blair', in his own words is " An instrumental, dedicated 2 the memories of my hi-school I graduated from in Pasadena, CA while a 'temporary resident' here on this thing we know as plant earth.". I, on the other hand, would call it smooth modern funk in that freeform way that is instantly recognisable as DâM-FunK. A solid tune with some real feeling in the synth playing, 'Blair' is the funkiest thing you will hear all day. [...]

Vinyl Blair were Billy Nasty and Steve Jones (Steve Dub). They have appeared here a few times (see here ). This remix was released on Hard Hands Records (Leftfield's label) and was Vinyl Blair's first single release (1993). This is another of those sprawling techno trance monsters. But coming at things very much from the techno side. Vinyl Blair - Scratch N Sniff (The One Billion Dub Mix) Buy

Hard to go wrong at any of the free residencies tonight. To recap: ► Expansive Americana with Robert Francis at the Bootleg Theater, where Blair , Papa and Cave Country support. Francis' new material impressed last week, and the singer-songwriter was joined by his sister Juliette Commagere (pictured) for a couple of songs. ► Tuneful indie-rock with the Ross Sea Party at the Silverlake Lounge, where A House For Lions , Spirit Vine and the Dead Ships round out [...]

From The Blair Necessities Remixes (Part One) , on Leftfield's Hard Hands label, comes this rather fine groover. Vinyl Blair, apart from being an awful pun, was William Nastri (Billy Nasty) and Steve Jones (more here ). Most of their work is unsubtle, straight ahead techno of the beat-you-into-submission variety. This track though isn't one of those. This is a more subtle funky track with definite hints of early Chemical Brothers from the fabulous low booming bass. A bit of a lost classic. Vinyl Blair - Space Dub 1996 (Vinyl Blair Mix) [...]

Following the success of our Inside The Beats campaign, we extended our interview series to our buddies over at well-known college brand and website, The Next Step Realty, a.k.a. Next Step. We know from personal experience how good a job they are doing and we want to make sure our audience is well taken care of as well. Blair Brandt and Belton Baker started a company last April from their garages and dorm rooms that now spans all over the U.S and even into Europe. They helped thousands [...]

After having to wait for 6 years to see Say Hi play a live show, I finally got my chance last night in Vancouver at The Media Club. I was familiar with both opening bands as well so it was hard to pass up buying a ticket for this and trying to convince others to come along. Blair took the stage to a sparse (but eager) room and made her way through a solid set of tracks. By the end it was starting [...]

Brooklyn via New Orleans band Blair began Monday night's show at Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan, setting the tone with a performance one wouldn't generally expect from an opening act. The sleek and sultry reverb-drenched vocals set against a surprisingly boisterous 3-piece drew the early comers from the downstairs bar to the stage. Blair's sound and stage presence were a fantastic opening to a lineup including Yellow Ostrich , and veteran headliner Say Hi (formerly Say Hi To Your [...]

Tuesday's show at Johnny Brenda's consisted of three bands, two of which we were able to catch (sorry Yellow Ostrich). While the fervor of each lead's style differed, both Blair from Blair and Eric Elbogen from Say Hi controlled the pace of their "solo" bands in a captivating manner. Say Hi For Say Hi shows, the drums are brought to the front and center of the stage. From that spot, Eric Elbogen begins and it's hard to look away. For the [...]
