[Audio clip: view full post to listen] Blake "The Prince Of Techno" Baxter every now and then has some house up his sleeve. This is a track hidden at the end of his tech slamming album "The H-Factor" and its just about as classic as a house tune can be with its retro organ stabs and building rhythm section. A brutal soul-queen style vocal is added on top from a mysterious singer called Makreta Birdsong. I have yet not been able to figure out who that might be she [...]
Who better than Abe Duque to celebrate 150 entries in our podcast section? With his first release in 1993 and a residency at New York's infamous Limelight during the Club Kids' heyday, there's no doubt that this trooper, 'one of the few still licensed to use the 3032, as he jokingly puts it, is one [...]

I have been an avid listener to Marc Romboy's Systematic Sessions for many years, a weekly podcast where Romby serves up some of the freshest most forward thinking house and techno music out there. In his latest podcast he played a track that really caught my attention; it is a slow burning dark blippy tech house track by Romboy himself alongside Stephan Bodzin called Triton (Gaiser Trial Tone Remix) on Romboys Systematic Recordings. Joey Beltram needs no introduction. If you're new to the genre, Beltram is a techno pioneer ! WDPK has mentioned Beltram here and here and just ask those knowledgeable electro fans what Energy Flash is and they'll cream. 2010 is going to be a big year for Beltram since it is the 20th anniversary of Energy Flash and to celebrate, Beltram and company are releasing a compilation that will feature Beltram's early days as a tagger in New York and a surprising remix for [...]

Abe Duque & Blake Baxter - Let's take it back (radio edit) Abe Duque & Blake Baxter - Let's take it back (King Roc remix)
What dancefloor were you on when you first heard Abe Duque and Blake Baxter's "What happened?" At that time, Abe Duque had spent a few years in the wilderness. He'd fallen from a regular on the European techno touring circuit to eking out a living as a carpenter, with barely enough money to release his own music - the legendary early Abe Duque Records 12"s, one-sided, with messages from Abe

Two Chicago and Detroit veterans collaborate with a sensuous Berlin sound on Process records, backed with remixes from Joey Beltram and King Roc. We could easily imagine grooving to the tempered techno synths and square bass of the title track at Tresor on their housier nights, before Joey Beltram picks up the pace with his relentlessly building remix for the Len Faki fans, and King Roc settles down into a darkly smudged and groovy version for the dark rooms. Belting Detroit techno tune from one of the greatest producers in the world! Blake Baxter - Sexuality Courtesy of http://www.alainfinkielkrautro ck.com/

Blake Baxter is another under-rated techno innovator from Detroit's first wave. Like Anthony 'Shake' Shakir (see previous post ), Baxter never got the recognition he deserved. He began recording in the mid-'80s before Motor City mainstays like Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. Presaging the influence of erotic house during the late '80s, he was inspired by Barry White and Prince as well as Parliament and Funkadelic. He released his first single on the seminal Chicago house label DJ International and recorded several classics for Saunderson's KMS Records, and by the [...]
