Well, this looks like quite an event! Having already remixed legendary synthpop duo Blancmange, Cage & Aviary will now be supporting them at their live show at Bush Hall on 30.11.11. See flyer attached below for more info. To celebrate this Cage and Aviary are giving away a free dub of Blancmange - The Western (Cage & Aviary's Nothing Is Dub), they've even offered a wav, if any aspiring djs want it? You can email them at info@twhe.co.uk to get one. Keep an eye out for their 'Nothing Is' parties as well. [...]
Blancmange 's 'Don't Tell Me' from 1984. that's how you make bass heavy, catchy, SynthPop. The beats are all a bit proto-Balearic really. Buy Blancmange's music from: Follow @electronicrumor
With labels like Wierd and Captured Tracks trotting out bands like Xeno & Oaklander and The Soft Moon, that early '80s synthpop sound is back in a major way. Which also means the original bands are back in a more-or-less major way too. Even ones you didn't know were back...well, they are! Here's five to prove it. The Human League - Credo [...]
The subdued form of electronic-pop that NYC-based Silk Flowers pursue is a glittery cross between industrial ambience and chillwave. Behind their simplistic leads of bass-synth and keyboards, the trio presents interesting pieces of percussive-laden samples that range in feel from chaos to Shangri-la. More often than not, the song's backgrounds mimic the sounds of a [...]

Well this has been a long time in coming, Blancmange is back from a 26 year hiatus with a brand new album called, "Blanc Burn". I've listened to the album about four times now and the two stand out tracks for me is the first single, "Drive Me" and the album cut, "Don't Forget Your Teeth". "Don't Forget Your Teeth" has a whimsical charm that is hard to deny. It sounds like a track that would have been included in Trainspotting had it been around at the time. Welcome back Blancmange! Blancmange - Drive Me [...]

There's been a riot of reformed, relaunched and rehabilitated 80s synth pop acts recently, ranging from the opportunist (The Human League alert to an awakened market after Phil Oakey's cameo with Little Boots) to the nostalgic (Heaven 17, reliant on deluxe reissues and package tours) to the sublime (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark's cracking comeback album History Of Modern ). So what's this – the ridiculous? No one was begging for the first new material in quarter of a century from Blancmange . The catalyst for Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe's reunion appears to [...]
Back in the day Blancmange were one of my serious 802s new wave jam bands, especially this song "Living On The Ceiling." Good news to say that the band have a new album coming out in the UK on Tuesday called Blanc Burn with some tour dates through May. Below, check out a couple new tunes. "The Western" by Blancmange
Tweet When you think of 80s electronic pop, a few names come to mind immediately. Many, if not all of them, have been mentioned here at some point. Erasure. Depeche Mode. Pet Shop Boys. OMD. New Order. The list goes on. Another name that deserves mention for their contributions to the formative memories of many a new wave casualty is Blancmange. The duo of Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe wrote some of the more intelligent and thoughtful pop in 80s English pop. Songs like Don't Tell Me, Blind Vision, Waves, Living [...]
![[EXCLUSIEF] Flashman DJ Mix](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3233533_lg.jpg)

Blancmange - Blanc Burn 9/10 There was a time when I would wax lyrical about how in 1982, I interviewed Blancmange just as they broke the UK singles chart. You know those were the days when you actually had to sell records to make the Top 40! Little did I realize that nearly thirty years on that they would be releasing a new album; even less that I would be reviewing it. After all, much like the band I took a long hiatus. [...]

'People's Potential Family Album' is a wicked compilation collecting together the best of the Peoples Potential Unlimited catalogue so far. All of the tracks on the album were previously only available on 123 or 73 vinyl releases and this is the first time that these obscure 70's & 80's soul, funk & disco gems have been available on CD. Rejuvenate the Fonk. J.P.s Force - Time To Throw Down Im still spinning the last Subway album ('Subway II'), even this long after it came out, and Im totally hooked on the krautrock [...]

La Roux has been around for some months now, with the release of their self titled debut on June 29th, and been getting plenty of hype and acclaim. I've liked their songs but not to the extent that BBC seems to love them. La Roux is a duo from England, consisting of Elly Jackson on synths and lead vocals and Ben Langmaid as co-writer and producer. The band oft comes off as a solo group with Elly Jackson being the face, sporting her Flock of Seagulls inspired hair. They have a lot of [...]

Emerging pop duo La Roux have been making waves in the UK for little over a year now, propelled by a torrent of grandiose predictions for pop music in 2009 and an imaginary feud pitting the duo against Ms. Victoria Little Boots Hesketh; an invisible tangle concocted entirely by the media. Prior to their debut, the duo forged a fast friendship with NME Magazine and won the loyalty of many a member of the "indie crowd" for lead singer Eleanor Jackson 's off-color candor regarding fellow pop stars, the industry, and mostly everything [...]

Earlier this year I uploaded some of my vinyl after a mammoth listening sesh. And here's another. The only common thread is how eclectic the collection is. Needless to say the ones below are the creme de la creme. Blancmange - The Day Before You Came (zShare) 1984 This was ABBA's most non-song - a poem to a backing track. It sounded the death knell for their career but Blancmange took it and made their own [...]

Now, I realize it may seem that way, but I don't mean to be hating on Blancmange. In fact, I'm pretty much a fan. Just not of that remake. How about I prove it with some Blancmange love? "Lose Your Love" was from the synthpop duo's final album, Believe You Me , and if memory serves me, it was their first for Sire Records. I get the feeling Sire had big plans for the twosome, who had spent the previous few years garnering some MTV [...]
It has been a while. You need these beats to move your feets because it is the middle of winter and you need to warm up. OK, maybe you don't, but I sure as hell do. James Pants' album Welcome is one of my fave records of last year, covering all kinds of stylistic ground but all of it funky. Blancmange's Vishnu is a great bit of Indo-synth pop, a bonus track from the bonus disc of the reissue of
A fantastic song and video today, courtesy of early-eighties keyboard botherers Blancmange. Their version of The Day Before You Came is undoubtedly my favourite ABBA cover (yes, better even than the ABBA medley by Steps, B*Witched, Cleopatra and Billie. Imagine that), and the wistful charm of the video complements the song beautifully. Look out for a cameo from Agnetha Faltskog herself too.
