In order to pay for their most recent album Foolish Croon , Chicago dance rockers Blane Fonda took to Kickstarter. Donors came through for the band and Blane Fonda is showing their gratitude by releasing videos featuring selected cover songs. The latest is a blistering version of Rush's "Tom Sawyer." The band does a fairly decent rendition of the song with singer Mark Wetzel able to capture Geddy Lee's vocal inflections. The video also comes equipped with a big American flag in the background and a bald eagle. Since Rush is from Canada, [...]
When we last heard from Chicago dance rockers Blane Fonda , the group needed help funding its debut full-length. We're happy to report that the group will finally release the album entitled Foolish Croon on Sept. 23. But before that album drops, Blane Fonda released a sweet video for "Opportunity Rocks" from its EP Master of Stars and Broken Arms . The space-loving outfit put on one hell of a neon light show backed by some pretty catchy grooves. It's like a cross between Lara Croft [...]

BLOODIEST | Photograph by Saverio Truglia Summer is in full swing and there are plenty of outdoor activities to satisfy your musical lust including two chances to picnic outside the Logan Square Monument and watch some sexy local rock provided by the likes of Rabble Rabble or Califone and Bloodiest . As if that could be enough, adrenaline-pumping indie rockers Les Savy Fav are in town. There's so much rock, we'll have to start a new pile. Let's get to it, shall we? [...]

Glam rockers Blane Fonda have jumped on the online fundraiser bandwagon in order to fund the release of its forthcoming debut album. The Chicago quintet took to Kicktstarter to raise $5,000 to make the album a reality and they are just over half way there with over $2,600 currently pledged ahead of the May 31 project end date. Blane Fonda also produced this insane promotional video, narrated by a Morgan Freeman impersonator to encourage donations. After watching the video, which makes the band out to be Tenacious D-level saviors of the rock [...]

So, this is pretty cool slash interesting. Chicago's glammy prog-rockers Blane Fonda , who we reviewed back when our site was still in its infancy , are offering a free song...for a catch. If you want a free mp3 of their song "Salacious Love", then you first have to go to Paywithatweet.com and pay with a Tweet or a Facebook post. Is this the future of independent band marketing? Free songs for social media promotion? Only time will tell. If you'd rather catch Blane Fonda [...]

Photo by Kirstie Shanley Hey Chicago! Just because summer is winding down doesn't mean there's a shortage of awesome shows to attend! This weekend we highlight The 1900s at Lincoln Hall , the Velcro Lewis Group at Saki , Down-Fi at the Double Door and more! Let's get to it, shall we? FRIDAY [...]

The Cortlandt Homes Three things-aren't-always-as-they-s eem-and-sometimes-two-days-are -crammed-into-one reasons to roll up your sleeves and trip and stumble to Ronny's this evening... 1. Chicago's The Cortlandt Homes offer up the kind of rocking indie that made your record collection burst at the seems in the late 80's and early 90's. Are they drunk? They could be but that doesn't stop them from bashing out Pixies-like ditties with reckless abandon. Someone has to and Cortlandt Homes are here to oblige. 2. [...]
Last summer, I reviewed the debut EP from Chicago prog-glam rockers Blane Fonda and really quite enjoyed it's ever-shifting song structures. Well, recently the group released a new video from the EP titled Master Of Stars And Broken Arms for the track, "Old Mare". The song itself, which is admittedly the most poppy and least proggy from the record, still shines with it's big ol' backbeat and sweet trumpet line in the chorus. And the video features some gnarly black and white animation effects along with the band looking pretty snazzy in those suits. [...]

Bringing on a cool, post-eighties, exquisite pop vibe, Blane Fonda were a treat from out of nowhere for us here at the Ripple. Needless to say, we didn't hesitate to have the boys come join us on the Ripple red leather interview couch and chat a spell. When I was a kid, growing up in a house with Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, and Simon and Garfunkel, the first time I ever heard Kiss's "Detroit Rock City," it was a moment of musical epiphany. It was just so vicious, aggressive and mean. It changed [...]

No underlying theme. Just what I've been in love with lately: oOoOO: NoSummr4u [zshare] What an annoying name for a band. What a great cover though. Camille: Waves [zshare] What an oddly beautiful song. Right through my bones Phantogram: As Far As I Can See [zshare] Another surprising song! Fck! convention. Blane Fonda: Salacious Love [zshare] [...]

As previously mentioned, the backlog of music has mutated into a folder of galactic proportions. All recently new music by some very talented (and patient) people. Not the worst way to spend 7+ hours! NEAR SIDE Fess Up Face Down • Blaine Fonda , from [...]
It was all a bit busy last month so we missed a few goodies that came our way. We're only just catching up with them now and have a few to share with you.Inu are a San Francisco based trio playing electro tinged rock with a suitably downbeat, slightly gothic feel. Their new release Monster EP is a collection of well-crafted songs that slowly creep up and overwhelm you if given the chance.

Blane Fonda sure loves irony. Their name makes me think of 80's jazzercise workout videos. Their press shot looks like it was shot with the technology and clothing styles available in the 90's. The sound is described as "grime, glam and regional mexican" on their myspace . All this irony. That's so post-modern of you, Blane Fonda! But their music is in no way related to jazzercise videos or regional mexican. There is a little bit of an atmospheric, heavily layered 90's influence from bands like the Smashing [...]

Mighty High - Drops a Deuce - Cable TV Eye b/w Hands Up! (live n nasty) There's no doubt about it. Mighty High really is Brooklyn's most "regressive rock act." Draped by some of the most mind-blowing R. Crumb style artwork imaginable (courtesy of Wayne Braino Bjerke) Mighty High really do drop a deuce onto an unsuspecting, slightly horrified public with this amplified, hellified, fuzzified blitzkrieg of raving retro, primal bone marrow rock and roll. Just imagine someone driving a big old rusty screw bit right through the [...]
I am SORRY. The last couple months have been crazy since I moved back to school, and because of that I've had less time for checking the blog e-mail. I've gotten tons of talented people sending me shit, and I haven't had the time to post a good portion of it. This is my making like Little Boots and remedying this shitty situation. Here's thirteen artists I've really enjoyed from my e-mail, listed from oldest to newest. Disclaimer: All of these artists deserve far longer write-ups; these accumulation posts won't be happening often if [...]
We've mentioned Blane Fonda on BBC in the past . Their dance rock sensibility made us rock out back then, and now its times to continue that trend. They have released their second single, Salacious Love, from their album, Master of Stars and Broken Arms . Once again they are bringing more of that fun indie rock that we all so love. Check it Out Below enjoY! Blane Fonda - Salacious Love

Sleek production, intricate arrangements and thoughtful lyricism are phrases not uttered too often when referring to a band's debut record. But Chicago's Blane Fonda have succeeded in all these areas on their debut EP Master Of Starts and Broken Arms . Even more impressive is that the band only formed in early 2009 and didn't even play their first show until last April. Blane Fonda are pretty much newcomers to the Chicago circuit forming from the remains of two former Chicago bands: The Sapiens and [...]

Newly formed (debuted April of this year) Chicago outfit Blane Fonda , featuring former front man of Technicolour Stallion , Mark Wetzel , and The Sapiens sans front man, just this month released a seven song EP titled Master of Stars and Broken Arms . Blane Fonda has received a lot of great press, including the honor of being The Deli's Chicago Artist of Month. We're excited to bring you "Salacious Love," a slick and lusty three and a half minute track sandwiched right in the [...]
