Bands from three continents came together Saturday night at The Bootleg Theatre. British rockers Tribes headlined and played some tunes from their soon-to-be-released album We Were Children . Lo-fi garage punkers Bleeding Knees Club had a few fans in front who wanted to mosh, but the rest of the crowd wasn't having it. Although locals Army/Navy haven't played in a couple of months, you sure couldn't tell. They started the evening off with smooth, yet catchy indie pop. Photos by Debi Del Grande Tribes [...]

Big start to the week: ► One more night of Guns N’ Roses , this time at the House of Blues. ► Berlin-based Sascha Ring (pictured), whose latest album as Apparat "The Devil's Walk" was lauded as one of the best electronic releases of the 2011, plays a full-band show at the El Rey Theatre. Apparat's new single "Candil De La Calle" is out Tuesday. ► NO's residency at the Echo vaults into its second week (the quintet will hop in an Austin-bound van right after the [...]

By Trevor Meyer Los Angeles’s own, Army Navy were the opening act during Saturday night’s festivities at the Bootleg Theater. The guys got the crowd into it right away with simple rhythms, well-placed refrains, and hooky melodies. As they made their way through their set, I kept wondering if they were going to lose momentum, but they never did. Song after song, like “Ode to Janice Melt” and “The Long Goodbye” featured contagious melodies and ignited an epidemic of happiness about the room. With so many [...]

Don't be fooled by appearances - they can often be extremely deceptive. The title of the debut album by Australian pop-punks Bleeding Knees Club [ Facebook / Twitter ] may suggest an indifferent shrug of the shoulders and shoes non-committally scuffing the ground, but Nothing to Do is packed with purpose. The best thing about about this album, aside from its songs, all of which are brilliant (and in BKC's line of work, you do not often get that high a level of consistency), is that it knows exactly what it's doing all the time. Full to the [...]
It's great when you get awesome tips from musicians you love, and so I was pleased to stumble upon Bleeding Knees Club when they were referenced by Dev Hynes...most recently of Blood Orange . They're just a duo, but they've got a pretty powerful bit of sound. Their record, Nothing to Do , just came out today, and surely they'll find a huge audience for themselves here in the States. I guess you could throw it into the pile with the rest of the garage rock genre, but [...]

Next Tuesday night, if you want to hang out with us, you'll come to the Mercury Lounge in New York City. We're going to go see our Australian buddies, Alex and Jordan. They're better known as the alternative punk rock duo, Bleeding Knees Club . BKC are coming to the U.S. for a few select shows in NYC and LA before heading to SXSW. We know that you're always cautious about paying to see a band without having checked out ...

Written by Jonathan Hatchman Having only formed back in March 2010, the Australian Garage-Pop Punks, Bleeding Knees Club’s debut effort, the Virginity EP, didn’t quite achieve multi-platinum status. It did, however incite some great reviews from major music publications and land the lads a handful of shows on the other side of the world, here in England, to promote their forthcoming debut album Nothing To Do , set for release on 27th February. Taking all of this into account, we caught up with the band to discuss the album, [...]
Keepin' the tradition going, another best of mix. I is definitely no expert on mixing, so apologies if you reckon the full thing sounds a bit naff. That said, have decided to include two of the tracks as free downloads for you kats too. Hope you dig and there may well be another of these [...]

Humbling from The Gold Coast, Australia, Bleeding Knees Club were introduced to me at CMJ last year. It was hard not to notice their stickers that were plastered at about every venue I went to! The band consists of Alex Wall on skins and vox, whilst Jordan Malane provides the guitar goodness. The band are set to perform at SXSW next month. Their video has now been unleashed for the track "Nothing To Do" via Rolling Stone and it features some animation from the Simpson's "Treehouse of Horror" episodes and some Harry [...]
