"No one's set on fire. No one's gonna die." I usually just happen uponthings, without any rhyme or reason. I'm often asked, "Where'd you hear this?" or "How'd you find them?". Don't ask, because I likely don't know. My brain runs a thousand miles a minute. This is one (of many) of those instance. The Bleeps, comprised of Remy Lamont and Paul Parker, are kind of inexplicable. They call London home and sing a self-described amalgam of indie and hip-hop. We can only wonder. I was hooked after hearing, even in [...]

Deep breath, and straight in: Today's New Band, Kezzie Beat , makes music that is nerdy, obscure, almost incomprehensibly repetitive and mainly of interest to a selected few who consider early 90's videogames to have the Best Music Ever. For these reasons alone, we should laud bands like this as a precious commodity. To take a Gameboy or a NES as a starting point from which to make music isn't really as unusual as it may seem. Limiting your sonic options in this way is akin to [...]
'Trane-Wild yet meditative free jazz from the Alto legend Marion Brown in an under-heard session from 1965 distributed by ESP Disk; Joining him are trumpeter Alan Shorter adding some tight fills and Reggie Johnson licking the upright bass.' Need I say anymore? Need I say anymore... If Four Tet likes it then why on earth can't you? Get your fill and have a lick at Bleep .

Royksopp - Eple (Black Strobe Remix) (MP3) The Norwegian duo are getting a lot of hit heat at the moment after their new LP has leaked online alongside a rather hot Holy Fuck remix , and it's prodded me to dig out this old remix of "Eple", from way back in those hazy electro-fueled nights of 2003. It was a simpler time back then, when Black Strobe's Ivan Smagghe was riding high and at the top of his bleep-infused game. There's a great flow to their take - it slows down, it speeds [...]
Last week's playlist included: 1. Squarepusher / AFX - Freeman, Hardy & Willis 2. Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (Holden Mix) 3. Four Tet – Ringer 4. Tricky - Council Estate 5. The Bug - Poison Dart (South Rakkas Crew Remix) Thom Yorke was featured in a 2009 Grammy ad. MP3: Thom Yorke - Skip Divided
Who is this guy? He's crazy. Get him out of here! No wait, on second thoughts ask him to come back. Sorry. Harmonic 313 has a new album out on Warp Records and if you wander over to his official site you have the chance to solve a bizarre words and colours puzzle, the prize being an unreleased mp3! I say. As far as the album goes, it goes by the name of When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence and would very much fit into the Future Doom Electro Dub genre that some retard at [...]
I have updated last week's Urgh! post , adding the tracks from the VHS tape that were not on the vinyl soundtrack. Since this album is out of print, I will never be removing the links to these files, that being said, my disclaimer about not hotlinking go double. Don't make me hurt you. Onto other business, I spent many-a-hour working on the Urgh! stuff tonight, so just a mini-post for now. Hopefully I have some more stuff tomorrow or the day after. The Bleep [...]

Almost astonishingly, today we publish the 100th band to appear on A New Band A Day. A Centenary! A Double Golden Jubilee! This is a (very) minor achievement of sorts, considering my attention span is comparable with that of the proverbial goldfish, and the transient nature of the Tubular Interwebs. However, it's a happy occasion I suppose, even though I didn't receive a telegram from the Queen . Like truculent teenagers though, we don't want to celebrate this too much, and would prefer to remain sulkily opposed to convention, whilst secretly longing for participation in [...]

Pictured: The Bleeps Dirty Little Secret is a live rock and burlesque night, the two worlds colliding to ignite the stage in an explosion of decadence and downright dirty rock 'n' roll fun. Three bands will perform together with three burlesque performers, chemistry made in heaven creating a feast for the senses. What's the Dirty Little Secret? It's the mystery headline band, only revealed on the night, when they will perform with Miss Trixee Sparkle at the top of the bill. The inaugural show, set to take place Wednesday [...]

A New Band A Day continues its trawl through the Best of, er... Bestival A.N.B.A.D. is about to go on holiday. Not the kind of holiday we've been on recently, when canvas, mud, cider and temperatures approaching zero Kelvin have been the primary features, but one in France , where the sun is out all the time , the steak is de cheval and the music is one of two options: Stupidly bangin' or merely stupid. But before we cram ourselves with the [...]
Download | Mirror1 | Mirro2 www.getthecurse.com Get The Curse is a lot of bleeps foils and bass lines that would listen peinard through the mouth. However, it is rather a smile that can be found listening to the productions of Jay Shepheard, certainly one of the revelations of the year. Not too far from its Manuel Tur [...]

One accusation that I sometimes hear levelled at the truly incredible Boards Of Canada is that they've found a 'sound', and just ground out three albums' worth of songs that are all slight variations on a theme. There is probably an element of truthiness in this, but frankly, fans of BoC don't care. They just want MORE , because even assuming that BoC are a one-trick pony, it's such a wonderful trick, complaining just sounds silly. But what would BoC sound like, if, you know, they shuffled [...]

I'll be the first to admit that the tunes I typically post here favor my overly melodic pop tendencies. Well, today, we're going to flip to the b-side. There are some fairly good 'art/noise/experimental/post-p ost-post punk' (I never know what to call it) bands coming out of the UK right now, many of whom are being adeptly harnessed under the new Mute Irregulars label. Here's a preview of this amazing new outfit along with some of their like-minded cohorts. Go buy these great singles. [...]
