Blessed Feathers - Everglades / Turner Hall Blessed Feathers - Stinging Nettle, Honeysuckle / Turner Hall I'm so proud to be the first to share two new live videos My friends in Blessed Feathers . This was during their show opening for Youth Lagoon and Porcelain raft at Turner Hall, and it was filmed by their pal Erik Ljung and the sound quality is superb! I especially love the track, Everglades, man that melody is gorgeous. Watch them, and then check out more over at their website [...]

Months ago, I got an invitation from my friend Donivan Berube who plays in the band Blessed Feathers , to be apart of his zine. I love zines, I sort of have this unrealistic fantasy about zine'in but when I really get down to it - it never gets done. But in my mind, I zine. So at the very least, contributing to zines is deeply satisfying. It makes me feel like I'm somehow apart of that culture - the manifestation of childhood cut 'n paste married with grown up thoughts in the form of [...]

So, as the New Year approaches, here are our favourite albums of 2011 for your consideration. Feel free to dispute, argue, or otherwise put us right because, if nothing else, music is as about as subjective topic as it is possible to get. Some of these may not be the "best" albums of the year as far as the critics are concerned, but that matters not, as they were the ones we enjoyed listening to most - give them a try, you might feel the same. 50 Jessica Lea Mayfield [...]

I've been listening to Blessed Feathers , " From the Mouths of the Middle Class" lately, and if you haven't picked up this record you should do so now , because it's great. It was released in late September, while I was still in Minneapolis and for reasons unknown I totally missed their show, and I'm pretty disappointed, because thanks to the internet, I call these guys my friends. I'm actually pretty excited about an upcoming collaboration between myself and Donivan Berube that I hope to tell you all about soon. I just [...]
Blessed Feathers is a Wisconsin-based folk outfit who just released their second LP, From the Mouths of the Middle Class . This album is a wonderful confluence of blues, 602s pop music, French Folk, and Americana. Led by multi-instrumentalists Jacqueline Beaupre and Donivan Berube, Blessed Feathers includes contributions from Jordan Knowles (percussion, maker of mirth and merriment) and Steev Baker, who is also a multi-instrumentalist. Tracks are led vocally by either Beaupre or Berube, who also back the other's lead. Beaupre's songs tend to reflect the French Folk and 602s pop, while Berube tends to [...]

Aside from the fact that I'm magnificently jealous of the fact that two dudes came up with a name like Prairie Hymnal before I, I want to point out that this is something we should take note of. Music and the land: For someone of Midwestern descent, someone who witnesses the rolling fields and blooming/leaf dropping trees on journeys a mile from my home, those two things fit together better than most realize. Music and our genealogies: As someone who has spent an arguably odd amount of time researching the familial background of one Justin [...]

. . . 41st And Home - "Wilderness Eyes" [mp3] "Wilderness Eyes" is a song that from the first note I knew I was in love with. This is the kind of song I'm likely to hit repeat on and just let it play over and over. 41st and Home's sound is obviously Vancouverish. I [...]

Blessed Feathers are playing tomorrow night at the Kitty Cat Klub with Canon Chorus and Al Church & State, click here for details. The guys were kind enough to sit down with us for an MFR Ultimate Interview , check it out below. What originally inspired the conception of the band? The Laureates Three Thank-Grimace-It's-Thursday reasons to head on down to Bottom Lounge tonight... 1. How about some endearing indie rock? If you like a little bit of jingle with your jangly guitars The Laureates more than deliver with its Spoon-like bluesy, toe-tapping rhythms and its Morrissey-esque vocal stylings. Our own editor-in-chief Richard Giraldi had some nice things to say about the group's sophomore record Spells back in June, describing the Laureate's sound as "rough-and-tumble garage rock with a power [...]
