You know the bit in Pet Sematary where the boy, Gage, gets run over and his dad buries him in the Micmac burial ground in the hope that Gage will return from the dead, and Gage does return from the dead but instead of a nice kid he's now a scalpel-wielding , town-terrorising c annibal ? Well Blessure Grave ( RIP ) was pre-fatal car accident Gage and Soft Kill is Gage with the scalpel. Convoluted metaphor! And if you haven't seen the film, sorry, we've basically ruined [...]

Things have been going exceedingly well for the grave wave masterminds behind the downtrodden San Diego outfit Blessure Grave. Not only did New York street fashion troubadours Mishka recently host them all the way across the country in NYC for an over the top event, the clothing line also announced a soon to be released 7" for the group, as well. Ironically, the show at Santos Party House on June 1st had Blessure Grave headlining, but was more a celebration in honor of the release of Feral House's new release, "Love Sex Fear [...]

Gothy death rock San Diego residents Blessure Grave are full-tilt harnessing Cocteau Twins and Siouxsie And The Banshees all day, every day, ascribing but never copying formulas of dark wave atmospheres and sunken, dire lyrics. The duo, in partnership with life-and-lifestyle brand Mishka are set to release a 3-song 7-inch EP entitled Stranger In The House . The very very limited release will have 100 copies pressed on pink vinyl which will be accompanied by a limited edition t-shirt and 200 copies pressed on black vinyl which will not include the tee. If [...]

No more "dancing on her own". Swedish pop innovator Robyn and indie-hop turned dance maven Kelis have announced a short but sprawling USA tour to begin in Los Angeles on July 23 and finish at New York's Webster Hall on August 5th. And if I am understanding the semi-cryptic tweets between Robyn and Kelis correctly, the sensational Dan Black will open for them as well. This show will be fantastic! Tour dates are as follows: 7-23: Los [...]

T. Grave and Reyna Kay are Blessure Grave , makers of hollow-eyed, brooding lo-fi goth rock. Their music manages to avoid the electronic leanings that come with most of the current acts tagged "goth", instead favoring raw guitar lines. They're a refreshing downer, reminiscent of classic acts in the genre like Young Marble Giants. T. Grave's monotone voice is sadly romantic, his words embodying the ghosts of music's past. Blessure Grave have teamed up with Mishka NYC as the inaugural act in the streetwear label's new series of limited 7" releases highlighting [...]

San Diego natives Blessure Grave represents those genres of music that I haven't slightly touched back in the day: EBM & Industrial, gothic music, British new wave and even post-punk to an extent. I was listening to metal back then and today I basically keep my dark side in check by listening to the noisiest depressive black metal around. Yet sometimes, a band like Blessure Grave comes up and gives you the same feeling minus the headache. Doomy & Gloomy post-punk which if you might excuse me sounds like a better The XX. Nothing new here yet good [...]
Dark, brooding, and Gothic, Blessure Grave from San Diego blend music from The Cure, Joy Division and Cocteau Twins into one frighteningly atmospheric and introspected sound that can either instigate a bad mood and get you out of one, but bad moods are awesome (they give you license to be a justifiable dick to anyone!) so why would you want to get out of one? Two albums in and they're really starting to pick up some buzz for this year, their most recent album "Judged By Twelve, Carried By Six" was released On February 19th on Alien8 Records and they [...]

gah, goth. i mean what's the blimmin point in subcultures? am i just jealous that i could never find one where the clothes worked for me? i mean i like black, the mainstay of my coves cupboard, but struggled even to sit through five minutes of doctor jeep. and another thing get yr hands off joy division fuckers, they don't belong with your sort. you can keep the cure mind. the only thing i like about them is converge's cover of disintegration. that's it. never understood the appeal: the hair, that [...]
Last night, Denman caught the Mishka/Chronic Youth showcase, Ov Cvrse , and sent home some footage of San Diego's Blessure Grave. Afterwards, he got a chance to chat with Toby of Blessure Grave about their reception at home, the buzz they are getting from across the country, and why they enjoy all ages shows better. Interview after the jump.

And so it begins. Every year, we listen to mp3's of every band scheduled to appear at SXSW. We then present you with an A to Z preview of the bands that we think should earn your attention. Whether you're coming down to SXSW (recommended!) or just looking for new music, there's no better time of year. There's a variety of music here, so buckle up for some different sounds. We'll be previewing two letters per day, which'll take us right up to SXSW Music Week. Then we'll give you our picks for the [...]

I'm not sure if it's the current political and economic climate or a reaction to the terrible music that fills pop charts these days, but it's pretty clear that the kids want goth! The reemergence of the scene has taken hold in the past couple of years, probably most recognized by the recent success of Cold Cave . You may think San Diego is a strange place for the best goth band around to hail from, but that's exactly where Blessure Grave resides. The band recently released an absolutely stunning album called "Judged By 12, Carried By [...]

Blessure Grave are bringing their own style and touch to that doom-laden goth grandeur first evoked by 80s black-clad icons The Sisters Of Mercy , March Violets et al. This track, In The First Place from their album Judged By Twelve, Carried By Six is a perfect example. Bass and percussion work together to evoke the graveyard and mysterious shrouds of fog while underneath a lighter, poppier touch tries to escape. Strange, but good. [...]

There's a lot to be said for Blessure Grave's ability to balance pessimism and melody. There are instances on their early releases as well as on Judged By Twelve, Carried By Six that achieve pop greatness. However, over the longer span of an album the pessimism tends to edge over the melody and wear down on you like a pouty 17 year old. Brevity is not one of Blessure Grave's strong suits here. The CD version of the album includes four tracks from their debut 12" which provide the best of the bunch, though some of the newer [...]
Reyna Kay is one half of Blessure Grave, the gothy Hellhammer-referencing South California death rock band and one-time Outsiders you should expect big things from in 2010. (Well, amongst those of us who listen to Swans, Cocteau Twins, KUKL, and old Siouxsie & the Banshees and feel our hearts skip a beat.) When I approached them about doing a Day Job piece, T. Grave told me Reyna's employed by the school district and as an ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) Therapist. When I followed up with Reyna, she confirmed it. That, and she's putting in 60-hour work weeks. I [...]

Does video art sap the life right out of musical lyricism, stifling imagination? I begin today's Radio Dick with my simplistic and probably naive assertion that one ought to still read words and not dive too heavily into visual culture. My thoughts have been weighing pretty heavily on this idea lately; my 9th grade class is moving through Romeo and Juliet with me and I can't help but notice the dwindling patience with the text, the lack of analysis without strong coaching from my end with visual stimuli. The largely thematic aspects of the play still garner interest, [...]
Hailing from San Diego but sounding as if they'd like nothing to do with the west coast comes Blessure Grave. Track "Stranger in the House," is a concise bit of goth-inspired rock that marches along in a stately fashion under the refrain "We're not the same." The song seems to threaten to kick into another gear but ultimately retains its militant groove, T. Grave's throaty vocals and tight guitarwork. "Stranger" is definitely for those that need some catharsis for a bad mood. [ Stereogum ]

Gothy San Diego Outsiders Blessure Grave recently graced us with the appropriately dark, dramatic Adam Grabarnick-directed video for " Open Or Shut ." We don't have moving images this time, but in "Stranger In The House" Reyna and Toby conjure more than enough darkness without turning on a video camera. The song's a demo from the band's next EP, which they haven't recorded just yet. Continue reading New Blessure Grave - "Stranger In The House"...
