Anyone else notice that I've missed the Friday mixtape? It wasn't intentional- rather, I spent the holiday getting a killer cold (again! this season sucks!), and am still recovering. I've managed to pull something together for a MONDAY mixtape, but it's just not the same. I've gone nearly three years without missing a Friday, and now this. It's like the Chelsea home record lately. Anyway... I'll do better in 2009. Tracklisting: Archangel - How To Lose Your Best Friend Blind [...]

Blind Pilot is basically made up of 2 guys; Israel Nebeker and Ryan Dobrowski. I cannot even begin to describe how beautiful their music from 3 Rounds and a Sound . They do indie-folk music kinda thing so it's my favourite genre. And definitely by far one of the more outstanding folk outfits of the year.ALSO, they're pretty cool too because they just completed their tour in the US by bicycles. Travelled throughout by bicycles. You can't get any cooler than bicycles now, can you! They have this simple, stripped down and bare sound [...]

This one's for you folkies out there. I was introduced to Blind Pilot this week through 3hive and I fell in love right away with the band's genuine and mesmerizing acoustic compositions. After coming off a crazy (yet awesome) weekend and having a nasty cold all week, this is exactly what I needed. I realize that earnest folk bands are a dime-a-dozen but trust me when I say that Blind Pilot are much better than your average coffee-shop band. Their debut album, 3 Rounds and a Sound , is consistently [...]

The coolest thing about Blind Pilot (besides the music...I'll get to that in a second) is that they just finished a tour of the West Coast on their BIKES! Gear and all, they pedaled their way down from Bellingham, Washington to San Diego, California. It took them just under two months. As a fellow bike commuter I'm extremely impressed by this feat. Taking the length of my commute into consideration (1.1 miles), this admiration shouldn't come as a surprise. Likewise, after one listen to these Blind Pilot songs you'll understand my admiration for their music. Simple, stripped down, yet completely [...]
In her review of Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York , Manhola Dargis writes, "To say that [this] is one of the best films of the year or even one closest to my heart is such a pathetic response to its soaring ambition that I might as well pack it in right now." This perfectly describes my quandary in writing about Blind Pilot , the latest indie darling to emerge from Portland, OR. Words fail when I try to describe how immediately this band captured my heart the first time [...]

I've been sitting on this album since we came back from Portland. This is another band to whom I was introduced by Matt of Bladen County Records , and very grateful I am too. They were actually playing while we were there, but it would have involved skipping a few too many crucial parts of Pickathon, so we decided against it. The beautifully laid back indie pop is sufficiently discreet that I found this a very slow album to come to terms with, and had a bad habit of only paying attention to a couple [...]

it's funny the way great music can sometimes come from the most random of places. a few weeks ago my friend's father, on the return leg of a months-long bicycle trek from southern california to alaska and back, was spending the night in a campground in the middle of nowhere when the sounds of live music pervaded the night air. the next morning brought a conversation with the two musicians who had played in the campground the previous night, who told my friend's dad that they were in a band and were on a bicycle trek tour of [...]

Not too long ago, I reviewed Blind Pilot's debut album, 3 Rounds and a Sound . It's one of 2008's best albums and a music video was recently released for "Go On, Say It." The band is from Portland, Oregon and it looks like most of the video was shot on the Columbia River. I once lived just down the gorge from P-Town in a little windsurfing town called Hood River, so it's nice to see some familiar scenery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =-usPwbzwIEk

I swear they said the car was in lot FU.. . Conor Oberst released a self-titled album back in early August when yours truly was on a much needed vacation. I feel I'd be remiss if I didn't get a chance to review it, even belatedly. Conor recorded it in Mexico with his newest project The Mystic Valley Band which includes Jason Boesel, drummer for Rilo Kiley [...]

Save me from my audiophile ways! Ratatat had a line 3 blocks long, didn't get in. But I did see Blitzen Trapper, Mirah, Blind Pilot, The Slants, Blubird, Teeath, and Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. i'm kind of tired now. i went to the after party and a security guard the size of phone booth went ballistic and grabbed a guy and sat on him, why, i do not know, but the guard had the guy in a really painful looking stress position for several minutes even though [...]

Thanks Big Tim for ruining my Sunday morning. Seriously, when deprived of caffeine after some late night concert going one should never have something like this stare them in the face. You know considering the heart attack and all. I almost, I said almost, shed a tear right there in Starbucks. Christ it's been weird watching my website ticking over perfectly happily in my absence. Given that I and only I have held the keys to this site for so long, watching you guys quietly getting on with it in my absence has been oddly eerie. The best bit, I think it's safe to say, is that it is clear that even without my instigation you're still prepared to be a right bunch of bastards to anyone doing anything foolish (like, say, not thinking Newton Faulkner are shit) and that at any random moment threads are still liable [...]

There's a really great FREE music festival going on this weekend down in SE. I went by this evening and saw two great acts. Reporter was a straight ahead pop rock combo with bi-gendered vocals. The lead singer/bass player was a very good musician. Next, I saw Blind Pilot . WHhhhooaa! I have never heard of them in my entire life until tonight and they stood my hair on end. There's this weird thing that happens to me involving the centrifugal force of rock bands. if [...]
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): BOAT - Topps (mp3) ( buy ) [...]

If you don't like Blind Pilot's 3 Rounds and a Sound , then you don't have a soul. I first heard "Go On, Say It" on XM Radio on Friday afternoon and completely forgot about the song and the band. Saturday rolled around and, after heading to Trader Joe's for tamales and two buck chuck, I came home and saw Blind Pilot on iTunes offering up the 11 tracks on 3 Rounds and a Sound for under $5.99. I sampled two tunes and immediately purchased. If you can find a better album for a Sunday [...]
Aimee Mann heard the music of Blind Pilot through a friend and that led to a friend request on MySpace and an offer to Blind Pilot to be her opening act when she performs in Portland, Oregon on July 19th at the Aladdin Theater. This week, Blind Pilot's track "Come On, Say It" is featured as a [...]
