. . . 41st And Home - "Wilderness Eyes" [mp3] "Wilderness Eyes" is a song that from the first note I knew I was in love with. This is the kind of song I'm likely to hit repeat on and just let it play over and over. 41st and Home's sound is obviously Vancouverish. I [...]

Blind Willies started out as a duo fronted by Alexei Wajchman. After two releases and many festival appearances nationwide Wajchman decided that in order to progress the sound of the band there needed to be more members. Now as a five piece, Blind Willies has just released their third album titled Needle, Feather and a Rope which was recorded at John Vanderslice's all-analog studio in the Mission District of San Francisco. The entire album was recorded over a 4 day, 10 hours per day time frame all to 23 analog tape giving it a raw appealing sound. [...]
When not recording or on the road, Alexei Wajchman, of Blind Willies is teaching music to preschoolers. How cute is that?

It's been a long while since we turned to the mailbag, but even after pulling out most of the vast Dylan tribute coverage over the last few months, it's bulging at the seams with the good stuff. So, as always, we've sifted through the chaff to find the best recent releases from new, practically new, and still under-the-radar artists - and happily, plenty in this late Spring crop is well worth your while. From classic jump-up cajun to broken-down bedroom folk to full-blown folk-influenced rock and roll, this month's backlog best [...]

After their professional debut at San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the band’s first two releases of all original songs, The Unkindness of Ravens (2007) and Everybody's Looking for a Meal (2008), garnered the duo much acclaim. New album Needle, Feather, and a Rope was recorded in just four days and the result is music that is raw [...]
