![[CMJ 2011 Recap] Elizabeth gets rewired with Cities Aviv, Datarock, Blonde Summer and more](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3818130_lg.jpg)
New York City is pretty much already the definition of sensory overload, all by itself, on a random Tuesday, in the middle of nothing, when half of the city calls in sick. So when it's time for the annual cluster-you-know-what known as the CMJ Music Marathon ? If I were Johnny-Five , my circuits would have shorted. Lucky for you, I just eeked by in the "living to tell about it" category, so I here I am, living. And telling you about it! In no particular order, I present to you: my favorite finds from CMJ [...]
While the summer is gone, I always look forward to the crispness of autumn. It's a time for changes, swapping tanks for sweaters, and flip flops for fun fall boots. While you may be pining for summer's music fest, you will be excited to know that with the passing of October brings another lovely event, CMJ. We are excited to be attending this year and wanted to share with your some of our picks for the 2011 festival: ANR Active Childe Ambassadors Art Vs. Science Balkans Black Taxi Blonde Summer Brick [...]

The 13th annual Eagle Rock Music Festival has it wired. The daylong neighborhood affair along Colorado Boulevard will feature 11 scions of the L.A. beat scene — the Low End Theory stage boasts performances by Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing and the Gaslamp Killer, among others — and enough of this city's top indie music to make a junction function. Health, Shadow Shadow Shade, Rooney and Mia Doi Todd are among the artists playing the festival's eight stages. The festival runs from 4 to 11 [...]

A new mixtape today, Stay Young, Part Two. Creating this mix gives me the opportunity to feature some of my recent favorites. It's sort of similar to my first mix , so I wanted to continue the naming tradition. It veers outside chill, electronic music though, unlike the first one. But I think the songs thematically fit. I think you'll like it (at least I hope so). Check it out with the 8tracks player above if you haven't already! Tracklisting Milagres - Glowing Mouth Washed Out - Eyes Be Closed [...]

[Happy birthday to Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai, who are in town tonight ...] ► Buzz Bands LA's monthly Second Tuesday songwriter night continues at Lot 1 Cafe with Brian Whelan (pictured), Stephen Sowan and Jason Diaz . ► Mogwai roars into the Mayan Theatre behind its seventh album, "Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will" [get a taste here ]. Fellow Glaswegians Errors open. ► Pinback plans to release a new album this year, [...]

I went to check out Hosannas (the band formerly known as Church) last night on a whim. It was a pretty last minute decision to go out on a Monday night but I was rewarded with music I got lost in. The whirling electronics, heavy with reverb, proved more intoxicating than anything I drank (I should also note their opener, Blonde Summer, was a pleasant surprise to someone who hadn't heard of them before yesterday). The Portland band featuring brothers Brandon and Richard Laws was making their way back from SXSW. They played a set with old [...]
[ download ] [tweetmeme] It's taken us a bit too long to get around to writing about Blonde Summer , whose self-released debut EP, Eleganza , was released late last year. Still, talent this good is worth waiting for. The Los Angeles quartet worked with producer Aaron Espinoza (of Earlimart and Admiral Radley ) on the recordings at his studio, The Ship, and you can hear echoes of his acts' music in the EP's breezier moments. "Cathode Ray" is the first [...]

[Birthday greetings go out today to Queens of the Stone Age/Sweethead guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen ... Now for tonight's goodies:] Top 3 midweek outings: ► It's the album-release show for noisy L.A. duo Alpine Decline , who are joined by Polls and Blonde Summer at the Silverlake Lounge. ► One of our fair city's finest purveyors of jagged power pop, the World Record , plays the Satellite with dreamy Ventura outfit the Spires . ► [...]

KITTEN, BLONDE SUMMER, AND RED ROBOT ON WEDNESDAY DEC. 8TH AT SAINTE ROCK, 142 PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY, HERMOSA BEACH. 5:30PM/ $10/ 21+ .

"Esperanza," the first EP from new L.A. quartet Blonde Summer , is a radiant blast of indie-rock done in the '90s way — with sharp vocals, insistent rhythms and churning guitars, all slathered in irresistible hooks. The five-song debut is the brainchild of singer-guitarist Chris Pope and guitarist Matt Reid, who sequestered themselves in Joshua Tree to write and then joined up with bassist Chis Livingstone and drummer Stephen Kurshner to record at Aaron Espinoza's studio, the Ship. The results make me think Blonde Summer could tour alongside Sunny Day Real Estate, or be the sunniest band on [...]
Blonde Summer - Cathode Ray Buy US: Buy UK:
Blonde Summer is filling me up with all kinds of nostalgia with their debut Eleganza EP. It's got that early 00's pop-punk vibe to it, with just the right amount of indie-rock flare thrown in to balance it out. And the style and vibes of this album almost has sort of a Matt [...]

Blonde Summer make a hybrid of lanky pop/punk that seems like it could travel in any number of directions at any time; a lot of times it does. Whether it's descending into a melted shoegaze, or ascending into an airy bridge, the band expands their songs three-dimensionally, without losing sight of what it is they [...]

Band: Blonde Summer Label: Unsigned More Info : Myspace Quite how Blonde Summer , a four piece from LA, remain unsigned is a mystery to me.They play sunburnt indie rock. It's a slightly raw and sun-tinged surf rock sound which doesn't necessarily tread a new path (they've certainly listened to the Pixies [...]
LUPE FIASCOThis artist needs no introduction. Here you go folks, the first track I've heard off of the extremely anticipated (at least by me...) next album from Lupe. Feast your ears on this beauty. The production had me at hello. A hyped up take on Modest Mouse's "Float On", mixed with some great horns, strings, and of course Lupe's wonderful flow. My foot is tapping as I write this. I hope you
With all of the digital methods of music delivery available, reaching hands into the old MML post office box and finding a bubble-packed CD submission remains our favourite way to find new sounds. In the case of today's featured artist, a kind personal note was attached, leaving us with no choice but to listen in the car on our way home. Regardless of seasonal disconnect between the band name and

This Blonde Summer track doesn't hang about. 'Cathode Ray' kicks in straight from the offing with some nice surf rock beats and jangling guitars. It sounds a bit 'Wave of Mutilation' at times, which can only ever be a good thing in our slightly bleary eyes. The song is taken from the band's 'Elegenza' EP, and is a beam of sunshine straight to your ears.
