Banner by Cysquatch That's right, boys and ghouls! Your weekend is fast approaching or already in progress! Are u high yet? We are, so excuse our giggles as we present the new MetalSucks Question Of The Week, a (sorta) weekly survey of our staff on a recent hot-button issue that's rocking our metal planet. Fearless. Controversial. Half-baked. [...]
GhostWhen: January 28, 2012Where: Marquis Theater, Denver, COWith: Blood Ceremony, Ancient VVisdomBy Andy O'Connor (Denver)Ghost were prepared to make waves in the States as support for Enslaved last year, but even a fervor for the Dark Lord can't make visa problems instantly go away. You mean to tell me that he can make me kill my parents, but can't cross the ocean? Some days, you have to put

My struggle lately is to not be super-foamy about The Devil's Blood, the Dutch occult hard rock devil clan. Their new record The Thousandfold Epicentre is coming to America January 17 via Metal Blade, with all the accompanying tours and merch and press that implies. Yep, Metal Blade has saved us hassle and agony. Pre-order bundle, here [...]
Ghost live is truly a thing of beauty. And so we wept openly when the band had to cancel their U.S. tour with Enslaved and Alcest earlier this year due to visa issues, and then we sacrificed a small child and prayed to the Dark Lord that they return to these shores soon. And now [...]
We were eternally bummed when Ghost had to cancel on their support slot for Enslaved a few months ago due to VISA issues. Thankfully, it looks like it's all been sorted out and the band can now come in and pillage this great land of ours. The band has announced a 13-date tour hitting major ...

I suppose "occult rock" is a handy enough term for it, anyway; it's easier than stringing together "70's-influenced psychedelic doom rock" to describe the aural spells these wicked women weave. The Devil is bigger than ever (bigger than the Beatles!) and the chorus of converts singing his praises has grown louder with every Ghost album [...]

On Blood Ceremony's second album, the Canadian band embraces a traditional style of doom metal; but they still manage to make worlds collide. With guitar riffs coming straight out of the Toni Iommi playbook and flute playing that calls out to Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, this album is like a rock nerd fantasy collaboration come true! Everything from the musicianship to the recording style on this album is pretty damn solid. I'm not 100% on the vocals, but it's a detail I can overlook when everything else I'm dealing with here [...]
Is "darkness" taken seriously anymore, or has it just become a schtick that gets your band labeled "witch house"? Canada's Blood Ceremony does reference witches, but they're not in a house- they're not in the ghetto either . The witches on the band's latest album, Living With the Ancients , would probably be more comfortable in an underground lair, getting ready to sacrifice some poor soul who had wandered in looking for a phone because he car broke down or something. On "the Great God Pan," the heavy guitar riffs call back to [...]

Mr. Urufixx lays down a few of his favourites for 2011 in this selection, from his trademark doom, drone, psychedelic arsenal with Blood Ceremony, Hexvessel, Mona de Bo, Cult of Dom Keller and Sula Bassana & Modulfix. Scale the Summit, Trap Them, Weedeater and Omnium Gatherum top the New Releases class of March 1st, 2011. New ones from American Heritage, Bill Steer's Firebird, Grayceon and others also come out this week, making it one of the healthiest new release weeks for metal thus far in 2011. MS New Release Czar Vic Vaughn [...]

Saturday 12th Sept at Trinity Hall, Bristol The Trinity was a fitting venue for this double bill, a deconsecrated church with huge oak panelling running the length of the stage…the vestry tucked away in the half light… beams disappearing into the darkness, the place oozing gothic… The first band were Blood Ceremony and hailed from Canada, they were fronted by this Velvet clad pixie with cobwebbed legs…a wooden pentagram swinging from her neck… Throwing out frozen poses, palm stags and clenched fists [...]
The songs of London trio Invasion might be short, but they definitely ain't sweet - wizard robes and monster riffs, delivered in sub-two minute psyche-rock nuggets. We put guitarist, Marek Steven, through the Future Hits treatment. How did you meet? Myself and our drummer Zel were already playing some of the same tunes together with a different singer from early 2006. She was good singer but 'difficult', and when she moved to New York we played a couple of instrumental shows to see what [...]
The Devil's Blood Come, Reap Van Recods 10 November 2008 by Jerry Ewing Heavy metal, horror and the occult have walked hand in hand since the first notes of Black Sabbath's debut cranked out of whatever archaic stereograms were the order of the day back in 1970. And not much has changed some 40 years down the line. Much like San Francisco's intriguingly similar Blood Ceremony (signed to Rise Above - check 'em out) and Canada's Jex Thoth , [...]

(photos from the New Years Eve bike rodeo, Dirty Deuce 2, in New Orleans, full gallery here ) My feverish nightmares of late have been of dying Palestinians. MP3: Blood Ceremony: what if Black Sabbath had flutes? Bands I got turned on to in New Orleans, but can't find their music available anywhere. All hints are appreciated. - Wizard Sleeve (Alabama?) - Guitar Lightning (New Orleans) - Ibi Na Bo (Domino sound 023) [...]
A small but pretty sturdy release week. Can you call a week "sturdy?" Whatever. Black Friday is this week, so artists who don't mind deep-discounting are all jumping on board. The new Becoming the Archetype album is pretty legit, as is Kanye's , even though I don't remember hearing him rap at all. Austrian Death Machine has a Christmas single that's sure to be great for any holiday cynic with a penchant for comedic metalcore. And the Demon Hunter DVD is pretty cool if you like them; a live DVD, [...]

How do you like your heavy music? With thick, heavy Sabbath like riffs, all powerful magicians, evil, hideous witches, fair virgins, and all the pomp of a medieval re-enactment? And with flute? Lots and lots of flute? Wait, don't answer that question, wait until you listen to Blood Ceremony's "Children of the Future." This combination of Jethro Tull, modern doom metal, and D&D shouldn't work at all. It should've been off of my hard drive, out of my speakers, and out of my mind after five minutes, but it wasn't. Maybe it's the [...]
