Joe Budden hit the stage at the Peacock Room in Orlando for a live performance the homie SCB captured footage of Joey performing "Blood On The Wall" & "Microphone."
He is eight days from home and Carl Shapiro, namesake of DC-based Shapiro, can’t wait to get into his own bed. The 6-foot-2, lion-maned bassist has been sleeping in a 15-passenger van for the past month, on the road with his bandmates to spread their sound of piano-infused pop-rock with audiences in small clubs and venues all over the United States. Here is a look at the band's journey toward success and recognition.

REVIEW AND PHOTOS BY IAN HRABE The hardest part about seeing Vivian Girls live is trying to see through their ineffable charm. When the ladies take the stage and fill a 45-minute set with noisy, gar... Continue reading "Concert Review: The Vivian Girls and Ponytail, May 4, 2009, at the Jackpot" >
Behind This Week's Snobcast: While I think vampires are definitely hot, I have not been able to understand the pure obsession with a book promoting abstinence by using one of folklore's sexiest creatures. I'm looking at you Twilight. From what I've heard about this book, it involves a male vampire and a human girl in the most fucked-up of relationships. I mean, the vampire watches her in her sleep, treats her like his property and she is completely reliant on him to a screwed-up level. Yet somehow this relationship that, [...]

Just because a year ends doesn't mean you have to stop listening to albums from the past year (right?). I wanted to give some props to the following albums from 2007 that had some real staying power, well, on my ipod at least. Check 'em (and if you like buy 'em). 7 Albums From 2007 That Rocked In 2008: The Forms by The Forms Comment: This whole album is awesome. Every [...]

Out of the all the albums that came out this year, these here... these are the tops. This list was put together with a little help from last.fm . Also, I don't apply any number ranks to my year end lists. I use the power of the alphabet, but if you really want a #1 album of 2008, let's just say it's... HLLLYH . Ok, let's go... Top 15 Albums Of 2008: Alegranza by El Guincho [...]

Breakthru Radio got in touch with me last week and asked me to be their Blogger of the Week this week, a title that involves them featuring a few of EAR FARM posts on their site and the recording of a Blogger of the Week radio show. For the radio show they asked me to select some songs from their cleared list of record labels to feature in-between interview segments with me. In doing so, rather than look into the past, I decided to select some favorite songs from the great year that's been 2008 thus far. Because of [...]

On Tuesday, The National are releasing a DVD about the making of their fantastic 2007 release Boxer. A Skin, A Night was directed by Vincent Moon and supposedly captures exactly how the band arrived at their finished product, though I haven't seen it so I can't really talk much about the movie. But the DVD is packaged with a new EP called The Virginia EP which is a 12-track album featuring

Tonight I recommend going down to The Earl for a killer show. It starts off with Atlanta supergroup Batata Doce . Then a local band called When Rocky Beat The Russian . I had no idea who they were until researching this week's show listings and discovering the songs on their myspace page to be very impressive and intriguing. The show is headlined by North Carolina's The Physics Of Meaning , who is lead by multi-instrumentalist Daniel Hart. Hart is a member of [...]
One of our biggest SXSW regrets is somehow managing to miss Blood On The Wall's set(s). BOTW's slayed since the 2005 debut, but Liferz builds on the past achievements, delivering a more concise, catchy, and skillfully sloppy take on that Mudhoney-on-Sonic Youth garage scowl. A couple recordings of BOTW tearing up the stage at the Social Registry's SXSW showcase, softening the blow of our Texas-sized lapse. There are two Liferz tunes (" Hibernation " and "Ditch," which come joined at the hip) and the Awesomer oldie "Reunite On Ice." Remember the video [...]
Who: Blood on the Wall When: May 17th Where: Mercury Lounge More Dates Listen: Blood on the Wall - "Lightning Song" Thoughts: This band is awesome on record so I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that they are even awesomer in person. Actually, if you must know the truth, I have been told by many people that they are tremendous live. I'm hoping not to miss this one. Who: These New Puritans When

For a few months now, my co-worker Timmy has been telling me at all the wrong moments about this band. "Yeah, yeah, I'll check 'em out," I tell him, rolling my eyes. And then when I'm ready to check them out, I completely blank on their name. But finally, I remembered. At first I thought they were called "Stoner Jam", but that's just the name of one of their songs and the name of their neglected blog . It's nearly, but not quite, an accurate description of the band. For one, the songs are way too short [...]

Photo by Touch And Go I feel quite fortunate in that my list of (active) bands that I still need to see live gets shorter and shorter every year, and many of those that remain unchecked are probably not very realistic prospects unless I go to them, on account of them being mostly smaller international acts who will probably never make their way to Toronto. Not so for The New Year , however. I appreciate that with members scattered geographically around the United States that logistics can be an issue, but the [...]

Hey, listen to this: "All Remote And No Control" (box.net mp3) by Eric Avery Some brief bio deets: Eric Avery is probably best know as the bassist for Jane's Addiction . After Jane's, along with Dave Navarro he recorded the Deconstruction album (which is freaking amazing... get it used here ). Since then he has worked with Garbage , Smashing Pumpkins , and (gulp) Alanis Morissette . He tried out for Metallica (but wasn't picked), and was invited [...]
