Dev Hynes is an in-demand songwriter and producer - most recently working with Solange on her EP True (and playing in her live band) and with Sky Ferreira, among others. Independently he puts out music under the moniker Blood Orange (and previously Lightspeed Champion). He recently released a cover of Kindness' Cyan . As Blood Orange writes, "I used drum elements from "Everything Is Embarassing", then I invited my friend Tracy Antonopoulos (From the band Cable) round to come and sing some backing vocals." Dev Hynes is perhaps best known for his work with other artists, everyone from the Chemical Brothers and Florence + The Machine to Sky Ferreira and Solange . This release sees him return to his own project, Blood Orange , operating in the hazy pop aesthetic that he has been so good at helping others into. Dev Hynes dominated 2012, there's no question of that. The musical polymath has got to have his hands full just writing and producing for other artists after his most recent work for Sky Ferreira and Solange Knowles , but he's still finding time to release music under his solo Blood Orange moniker. "Cyan" is a home recorded cover of fellow English musician Kindness and has Hynes displaying his assertively unique lo-fi glam R&B sound to more of an extreme than his collaborations.
