Dev Hynes bka Blood Orange has been very busy of late, writing and producing some of the better singles to have come out in recent memory. Here, he takes a break from his workaday duties ... read more

As a break from all his recent production work, Dev Hynes (a.k.a. Blood Orange ) took to the comforts of his own home last night to record a cover of Kindness ' "Cyan." The Solange and Sky Ferreira conspirator took drum samples from the latter's "Everything Is Embarassing" along with vocals from Cable's Tracy Antonopoulos to create this cozy, lo-fi take on Adam Bainbridge's indie-disco standout. Grab a copy of the track below. MP3: Blood Orange - "Cyan (Kindness Cover)"

Blood Orange has just posted this smooth slow jam version of Kindness's pop gem 'CYAN'. It's hazier and more tripped...

Blood Orange follows a pretty impressive 2012 spent writing every one else's brilliant smash hits (see Solange and Sky Ferreira ) by covering one from fellow Londoner Kindness . Listen to his home-recorded take on 'Cyan' below:

Elias Tahan There are many routes to Solange . Some may know her because of the surname she shares with her superstar sister . Others for her thespian endeavours which so far, have peaked with the starring role in the third chapter of the competitive cheerleading saga Bring It On . And her music career - two albums since 2003 - have sold hundreds of thousands of copies, so she's got fans there, too. But it's her recent turns covering Dirty Projectors and collaborating with Of Montreal that have garnered her [...]

Time Out Happy New Year, everyone; hope 2013 has been good to you so far and if not, geez. It's only been 36 hours or so. What the hell. We'll kick off the new year with some old faces under a new name; The New Mendicants. So new they don't even have a website or Facebook page, but if you need some background maybe look up Pernice Brothers , Teenage Fanclub , and The Sadies , and cross-reference with my writeup of last June's wonderful Joe Pernice/Norman Blake show [...]

thepiratebay Kind of an arbitrary selection to close out the year - and the regular cover of the week thing as a whole - but hey, it's timely. Dev Hynes doesn't operate as Lightspeed Champion anymore, and even his new Blood Orange persona is presently taking a backseat to his role as Solange's producer/co-conspirator, he was/is an amazingly prolific musician no matter what you call him, releasing music through whatever avenue happens to be convenient. In 2007, that was MySpace and even before his debut full-length [...]
Though the FADER does not empirically rank our favorite releases, the year-end battle between album heavyweights rages in our brains like everyone else’s. But we’re talkers, prone to changing our mind and always searching for ... read more
Time for round two in our little audiovisual recap of the music video year 2012. In our first part we already presented you a fine selection of clips you should have seen before this year ends. Songs about love, friendship, weird family structures, abstract images and a lot of sex and crime. Or at least

As we approach the end of 2012 and ready ourselves to usher in another fantastic year for music, we look back on the songs and albums that blew us away. One song that you'll see on almost every respectable best songs of 2012 list is Sky Ferreira 's early-902s vibe-tinged pop-jam "Everything Is Embarrassing" , penned by Blood Orange , and now to take that track to another dimension of nostalgic glory, she just dropped Unknown Mortal Orchestra 's remix of it. [...]

Dev Hynes w/ Solange at Bowery this week ( more by David Andrako ) For those still lamenting School of Seven Bells' recent cancellation of their Music Hall of Williamsburg show , the electronic duo will be playing a free show tonight (12/13) at the Sony Style store in Long Island's Roosevelt Field mall . The event happens from 7 - 9 PM and also has "free drinks all night" and food from Waffles & Dinges. You do need to RSVP . Meanwhile, [...]

December has cometh and thus, so does the annual round up. We're beginning with albums, and opting for a top fifteen only. Whittling down this list has been tough, but we're finally happy with our choices, so, let us commence. 15. Solange - True Solange ’s ‘True’ is latecomer to the album of the year stakes, having only been released a couple of weeks back, and in actuality, is an EP rather than a full album. However, it’s very much worthy of a nod owing to its [...]
Solange and Dev Hynes bka Blood Orange were guests on last night's episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, performing her single "Losing You." They wore complementary shades of emerald and sunshine and, along with ... read more
Posted in Play-This-List Something For The Weekend I've kind of become a bit obsessed with Solange Knowles' latest release True, a 7 track EP which she recorded with Dev Hynes (Blood Orange, Lightspeed Champion). The song that pulled me in is 'Losing You', a retro pop gem with an beat that's going to stick with you long after first listen. Addictive. Her [...]

Solange Knowles ’ True EP, released Tuesday, is a striking collection of thoughtful, anti-formulaic pop songs. The EP presents Knowles and songwriting partner Devonté Hynes at the vanguard of a new “between the cracks pop” movement emerging at the intersection of indie and the mainstream. They specialize in music that’s at once familiar and strange, balancing immediate appeal with creative, boundary-pushing songwriting. The track “Some Things Never Seem to Fucking Work” is a prime example. Like most of the songs on True , it has [...]

Listen to 'Lovers in the Parking Lot' by Solange from her latest release 'True'
Maybe it's because she's Beyonce's sister, or because she's responsible for a few undervalued pop gems like "Sandcastle Disco" and "I Decided," or maybe even because her first real single in a few years, "Losing You," is so damn good, but it feels like Solange has a lot riding on True , her Dev Hynes -produced comeback EP released through Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor-ran Terrible Records. True , and specifically "Losing You," is a strong and successful statement of intent. The EP's last six songs [...]
