Blood Red Shoes are from the Long Blondes/Sons & Daughters school of female-fronted punk pop. The duo broke in 2007 with their brilliant 'It's Getting Boring By The Sea' single, but didn't seem to make as much of a splash with their debut album, Box of Secrets . This fourth one goes to someone who I really admire. It's Laura-Mary Carter from Blood Red Shoes. My experience from going to BRS gigs is that all the boys want her and all the girls want to be her. Personally I find that to be true, I really do! Her style is feminine with an edge. She's always wearing these gorgeous dresses (I seriously want them all!) but still pulls off the rocker image. I had a much more difficult time compiling the list this week than I did last week, and I have several theories why. Most importantly, I blame the fickleness of the British music press. They are always in such a rush to heap praise on the latest thing to come along (and all to often turn on these same bands within about 3 months of their debut release), meaning that many, many bands get hyped at some point or another as the next big thing. Today for my 1000 minutes I've decided to pick two of the best bands to come out of England's South Coast in the last decade.
